Industry Pressure

Apologies for being off forum for a bit, was studying abroad in Aussie, not that anyone missed me :(. Industry related question, what is the typical pressure for bladder molding or injection molded skis/ boards? I know injection PU skis are pressed at the pressure of the reacting foam on the closed ...

One other thing of interest.

The sales rep for Movement was pitching the skis to retailers using Endre's flex chart. I found that pretty funny. Good work man.

cheers.

Definitely a fun show, it took me most of the week to recover. As far as graphics go, transparent UHMW/ TPU seem to be opening up the door to visible cores, edges, sidewalls and a lot of new styling. The show is set up around retailers including trying to increase their sales with seminars, etc so t...

Thanks for the links. Not that different, too bad, but still cool. Any other takers on the show?

No sweat, I'll post some shots for everyone. The only real preview I've heard is that Rossi will be unveiling a new way of looking at topsheet art. Should definitely be an interesting show.

Snowsports Industries of America Tradeshow

Hey everyone. I'm heading down to the SIA tradeshow in Vegas this month to check out next years gear. Just wondering if anyone wanted to meet up and talk shop. Let me know.

Cheers, Steve.

Thickness Center

Hey everyone, I took a pair of calipers to 10+ pairs of skis for various rides, all alpine, I found that surprisingly the maximum thickness for most skis lies in the region of the crown of the foot region, about halfway between the MRS and waist. Its pretty evident if you look at how on most common ...

If you want to get technical head to your local engineering library and look up ASTM standards. There is one for required binding mount area, location, screws, etc. Cheers.

Thanks CADMAN. One additional question. So there is in fact a cavity milled out of the bottom mold, depth of which I assume to be edge thickness with vertical walls, and plan shape corresponds to base profile plus edge thickness, would this be correct? Also, is aluminum or steel tooling used from wh...

So in essence a recess is machined into the lower mold of net shape, base and first edge laid in, then the second edge is wedged into place so to speak. Correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks again.

Thanks. Could you please describe a bit more. The cassettes you're talking isn't the mold track system is it? If the cassette is a mold insert is it tapered such that it provides lateral load from vertical installation? Thanks, just trying to picture whats going on.

cheers.

Production Edge Fixing

Hey everyone, I'm wondering how manufactures keep the extremely tight fit between edge and base. I know they receive edges pre-bent to tip rads. Line in their old video held 'em with clamps, the Burton Jeremy Jones layup video shows locating fasteners that I assume push the edge snug into the base (...

Endre & others, Have you flex tested any skis from the 90's or 80's? I'd be interested to see the evolution in flex from straight to shaped. My intuition is that they decreased stiffness due to the change in skiing style, from pure waist pivoting to more fluid steering motions. Any other thought...

Both metal and composite are bad for damping, but my research has shown that its a question of picking the lesser of two evils. As you know the optimization of damping and responsiveness is complicated. I have seen charts of the natural modes for rec alpine skis and GS race skis and the metal seems ...

Seeking the truth about Titanal/ Ti, ceramics, and metal dam

I'm still relatively new to the forum, but the use of metal as a structural layer has caught my attention. From what I've read metal obviously provides isotropic stiffness (Volant, etc), but the damping aspect has me beefumbled if thats a word.... What I've read has metal providing a damped ride at ...
