As long as you're not using any fibers in 0 degree direction you will loose the camber regardless of the amount build into the mold. The woodcore creates forces to get back into it's original shape and there is nothing that could take the forces..... Your laminate is just able to take torsional forc...

cheap and crappy is right! :D. but seriously, i haven't noticed much of a difference in terms of durability between super-duper high-quality and low-quality wood, except of course, the dent that high-quality wood makes in my bank account. keep in mind that wood does affect the overall weight of a s...

Some thougths about heating: The main reason for the ski companies to use heat is to get the ski quick out of the press to produce as many skis in a given time as possible. We've got time - so heating for fast curing is not really necessary. What we want to achieve is a stronger epoxy matrix. For th...

Uuups - wrong word :(

I meant damping (vibration absorption). I tested with the two strips clamped at one side, bending them and suddenly removing the force. The strips oscillate with decreasing amplitude.

The Basalt composite shows a much stronger reduction in amplitude over the time.

First test results with Basalt UD fabric: I created two test pieces - 5mm wood strips one with 220g/m2 UD Glass above and below the wood and one with 240g/m2 Basalt UD below and 220g/m2 Glass above the wood (as Basalt has no advantages in compression). The basalt/wood/glass sandwich is a bit stiffer...

Ok - perfect thanks! I plan to keep the core profile as it is (maybe reducing the flat center to 11mm) and use the following layers: 408g/m2 Biax below and above the core. 250g/m2 Basalt UD below the core 220g/m2 Glass UD above the core The ski will have the dimensions 129-100-114, 180cm long (pinta...

Thanks for the information Idris!

How would you rate the flex of those two pairs - compared to e.g. BD Verdict?

Very nice report - i see many similarities in our skibuilding: The kitchen is a great workshop isn't it (i must admit yours is much bigger than mine) ;) I prefer handtools too (maybe you try a handplaner for shaping the core - works fine at least with soft woods). I've could a couple of those nice c...

I've used a Bamboo veneer as topsheet and simply painted it with a 1K PU varnish after pressing/trimming. The coating is not very strong - get's scratched quite easily. I would recomend to go for a thin layer of transparent glass together with a UV resistant, polishable epoxy or a 2K PU coating. If ...

I'm kind of surprised that they offered this amount of material - normally they only sell entire rolls (price per kg).

As it might fit to this topic:

I'm still looking for edges 2mm wide or wider - if anybody's going to order some or can sell me some meters i would be very happy!

Wow - this is really hard core testing 8) Some questions regarding your reinforcement: What the weight of this carbon/aramid fabric? Do you only use one layer 0°/90° woven fabric? How are the mechanical properties stiffness/flex, torsional stiffness? I've always wnated to use this hybrid fabric - so...
