Funny, I thought about the same thing when I was trying to design my press. I was thinking about using steel pipe though. You can get used steel pipe cheap. I figured you could design a mold assembly the same as normal (with the air bags between the top mold and the board), and then slide (roll) the...

G-man, why don't you heat up your press before putting your skis in?

DANGER With any significant pressure (35 psi or higher) you are going to have enough deflection in the steel of the frame which will most definitely shear those small (3/8?) bolts that you have holding the frame together. IMO that is not a sound frame design. Remember you're probably going to be dea...

Hi, I saw on the swisscomposite online catalog some basalt fabric. Basalt is a natural volcanic rock, and these sheets of basalt have better tensile and compressive strengths and higher modulus of elasticity, when compared to E-glass. Maybe this could be used instead of triax fiberglass or carbon f...

Idris, what kind of a temperature variance or we talking about here? A few degrees, or significantly more? I wonder how the temp difference effects the bond. The epoxy I plan on using has a specific temp setting for the best cure. Most snowboards I have ridden seem to lose some camber after about 30...

depending on the dirt, one cubic yard should weigh about 2,000 lbs. You could get some serious pressure going on your mold if you did it right. And digging in the dirt is so much fun.

Dude,

Dig a big hole. Set your mold at the bottom of the hole. Cover it with a bunch of dirt, then cover that with more dirt. Drive over it a bunch. leave it for a couple days. :D

I worked all weekend on the bottom block. All of the steel is cut, the frame is partially welded, all of the holes are drilled for the adjustment plate, and I realized how much more there is to do. Here are some pics. Like I said, still a long way to go. http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2027/186570759...

Any of you guys get one of these?

If you did, let me know. I was starting to think one of these might work pretty good for sanding the sidewalls after cutting off the flash.

If you want to press two skis at a time, you should look at snowboard press designs. There is alot of good info here and at www.grafsnowboards.com check out their forum also. Don't be in a hurry. Check out all the different presses. Read about the problems and successes of others, and then go for it...

I am building something revolutionary. LOL. Ordered the steel today. Finally figured out what I think will work. I am going to have adjustable bolts with a triple nut design which will adjust the heights of a 1/4" thick x 16" wide steel plate which will have a "cat track" of 1/2&...

I could picture the vacuum helping out with the problem some people are having with their radiused pieces not having enough pressure.

Ski Base Sander

If anyone is looking for a base sander for skis there are 2 wet and 1 dry sanders at the K2 plant on Vashon. 350.00 was mentioned as a price. Also there is a LARGE stone grinder available. Unfortunately the stone grinder is 480v 3 phase. If anyone is interested send me a pm and I will get you the nu...

The only successful camber block of this sort I've seen (at Lacroix skis) had adjustable supports on 10cm (41in) centers and a 2cm (3/4inch) thick steel base plate. Also this setup was limited to 50psi or you got waves in the camber! The idea is sound but the details needs some work IMHO Wow, I am ...

I think I am back on track. After a lot of thought and more perusing of this site and grafs site and I am pretty much sold that I have to have an adjustable camber system or I won't be happy with my press. G-man used 1/2" grade 8 bolts in his press and figured their shear strength at about 4,00...
