How thick is the Titanal you are using

Some people have been asking if flashing will work in place of titanal... I think it's probably too thick, but does anyone know the actual size of titanal for skis? also, what type of rubber are you using for VDS? where have you been getting your titanal and how much does it cost?

Thanks,
Cameron

I can't help you out... I'm in Vancouver, BC. but I'd really like to know whatever you find. What specifically are you researching about bamboo cores?

Thanks. Is bamboo native to So Cal? I thought in order to make it a really 'green' building material, all we would need to do is plant some bamboo here. Then, about a minute later I realized that it's not really from around here, as far as I know (I've had some bamboo shoots sprout up in my yard, bu...

Bamboo properties

Bamboo seems to be increasingly popular as a core material. I was pretty much settled on building a full bamboo core, so I got some sample vertical laminate from my wood supplier. I had a long discussion with him about all sorts of woods and their properties; even he didn't know that much about the ...

This is what Roy at QCM told me when I asked about how to measure the epoxy: "you should always measure hardener and epoxy by weight. All our data sheets refer to weight ratios. Volumetric ratios are not even available. ( we could calculate them from their Specific Gravities , but they would be...

cassettes

Anyone made a cassette for their press? I'm a little unsure of how to do it and how it would work. Probably CNC or laser cut it out? Any info on them would be great.

check out plyboo.com for some more info (look at the plywood) and ask your source for some more info about it. strength etc. of it will also depend on the bamboo species (I dont know how noticeable the effect is).

Take a closer look at the "solid" planks... I can pretty much guarantee it's already laminated. Bamboo culms are filled with pulp inside so the only useable "wood" (I don't know if it counts as wood because it is a grass) is the outer ring. This is cut into strips, probably 1/4&q...

Topsheets

There has been a bit of discussion on various other threads about topsheet materials, so I thought that I would dedicate a discussion to it. I don't think that UHMW is the best option, but havent found many other alternatives. The polyamide 12 used by Kingswood looks super sharp, but I am not totall...

I got a quote from OEM on a blanket 190cm x 10cm, 120V and about 600W. I decided that this would be a good size for one ski and was planning on getting two. However, as they are one of the more expensive components, I would be much happier if I could get away with one. Just wondering how the heat di...

Laminating

I noticed that most people seem to be using Titebond for laminating their cores. What sort of difference would epoxy make (other than cost)? I'm specifically interested in flex characteristics as well as potential weight differences (these would probably be negligible, but if epoxy will stiffen the ...

The kirei is expensive and generally not a good alternative. Talked to a friend that purchases all the wood for a large hardwood company near me who gave me some good information on wood rating (FSC, etc.) as well as bamboo. The rating stuff is complicated, but basically every source kinda needs to ...

Ya, I think reclaimed wood is definately the best option. There's a supplier of windfall and storm recovered materials near me that I think I'll check out today. I'll also be looking at an alternative to fibre board for the mold; it's called Kirei board. Not sure if it will work, but I'll see what I...

Heating Blankets

Has anyone had success with lower currents/power/voltage heating blankets? 3000W is a lot of power. From what I've seen regarding silicone blankets, they can go up to about 500 degrees, but I don't know if anyone has done any calculations/tests to figure out the efficiency or actual heat that is tra...

Just somethings to consider with regards to bamboo. I posted this, along as part of a longer environmental monologue, in the "eco-friendly skis" thread. Objective bamboo information is pretty hard to find right now, even when browsing journal databases, because it is such a trendy alternat...
