A wood working magazine called Tauntons Fine Woodworking did a test on the strongest wood glue. Titebond 3 (green bottle) won. If the wood being glued together is clean, and fits well together, the glue line is stronger that the wood itself.

It is fairly easy to get wood with this kind of vertical grain. When the lumber is sawn from the boule(Log), if it is cut like a pie it will give you an endgrain that is vertical. That is called quarter sawn. It is the least likley to break and it has the least shrink and expansion due to moisture c...

Here is how I do it. Get a board of the same material that you are using for the core and plane it down to 10 mm. Take an unriped sidewall piece and epoxy it to the board using your press without molds to provide a uniform pressure across the lenght of the sidewall. Once cured, plane the uhmp side t...

Rawhide firehose like g-man said will send you a sample and sell you any length that you want. I use their 6" yellow hose and i push 60psi into it each time. Their hose is rubber coated so rubber sealants grip the surface very well.

Thanks for the input guys. I had no idea that the uhmp was so reactive. I have been taking the base right out of the box and going at it. I take maybe an hour at the most to go from a rolled up peice of uhmp to a shaped base with edges on material. I'll give it a little seasoning time in my shop and...

When good 4001 base goes bad.

Ok, I'm working on my third pair of skis and I'm consistantly having the same problem. I use a router and a template to shape the 4001 base to the desired shape. When finished they are identical. Then... I attach the steel edges whith a few spots of super glue and the bases get all bent out of shape...

Has anyone out there ordered materials from Action Sports in Burbank Ca? I did on the 14th and it's not here yet. I figure two weeks is plenty of time to ship ftom Ca to PA. They will not return e-mail or answer their phone. Has anyone had a problem with them? Has anyone had great service from them?...

You could use one piece of lumber but you would need to use a plank that was quarter sawn (vertical grain)from the log. If you flex a piece of wood across the tangical of the flatsawn grain it will break along the grain lines. This is realy prevalent with pine because it has such a diffrence from th...

Hey Gman, thanks for the advice. It seems that the epoxy did not cure well. Curious however is the fact that the first pair of skis I pressed about 4 months ago are great. same epoxy, same design, just some width changes for a narower ski. I dont have the ability to heat up my press. It is made out ...
