The only problem I see with FEA (I am studying in mecanical engineering) is that I didn't find a way to simulate epoxy. French E I would be tempted to not try and separate the epoxy from the glass layers, it would be better to use the combined strength of the laminate since they are working togethe...

Moral of this story is that if you keep searching you may get a little lucky and find an individual (not a large business) who can help you out... I have had good luck with signmakers who are used to one off small orders and have all the equipment (numerically controlled routers) I supplied the dxf...

Jeez, I didn't realize Canadian customs was so much. Is USPS better than FedEx? -kelvin Most of that charge is the fee charged by the courier for the privelege of doing the paperwork for customs. The post office is much better, they will charge a flat fee of 5.00 to do the paperwork and then charge...

Re: ski weight

ski weight is a (very) non negligeable parameter, and so the choice of materials Here is a link to Bambi's ski flex program which I revised to add two features: A weight calculator so that you could estimate the materials in the ski A revision to the layers and materials so that you could investiga...

Re: Cutting board

Anyone got any other tips for the connection? This must have been done tons of times by people here at skibuilders I use mag wheel air filler valves and I am pretty certain that is what is shown in plywoods picture. The only thing that you have to do to them is take out the valve with a pair of nee...

With care you can use a standard dovetail bit and let the shaft run against the steel edge. I check the side of the shaft frequently because I worry about it wearing through but so far so good. I remember at one time Kelvin had a part number for the bit you see in the photos.

Comparing strength of laminates is not simple but here goes: The strength of the laminate is directly related to the direction of the fibres so you need to only try and compare similar constructions. Comparing a trixial fabric to a biaxial is very difficult because the biaxial fabric has transverse ...

Re: nylon stockinete

Hey everyone. Yesturday I was sitting and thinking and I thought of a great way to achieve a 360 core wrap. Nylon stockinete. You are right I don't think it would add much strength, but why not use a fiberglass or carbon sleeve which are readily available and would make a good core wrap becuase the...

i wonder if the dowel method works with inserts? Yes it does (but I don't have any) A while ago I read an article by someone who was a semi pro board builder who used some or all of the inserts preglued to the base to position the core. I had cut my first cores so close to the base I could not use ...

I use a pair of wood dowels to position the core on the base as follows: Drill the base about 12" either side of the boot center, the location is not critical. Press dowels through the core so that they will just contact the base without the core being in full contact (just enough to align it p...
