I’ve done it to all of my skis. One less thing to worry about. The UV thing is really not an issue unless you were to leave the skis out in the sun daily all day. After the flash is trimmed and the side wall is beveled sand with 80 grit to give the hot coat something to grip. It will take 3-4 oz. to...

WOW, i only paid $140 or so for my Joe wood worked setup. In pinch you can use a vacuum cleaner. I know of a guy that made surf boards that way. He would go and get user vacuum cleaners at teh pawn shops and use them until they would burn out. A good combo would be to get the gear to make a vacuum c...

When your trimming the flash from a new pair of skis with a scroll saw make sure that you are cutting away from your table or the part is over hung far enough. I now have a 6 inch cut into my router table. :x I thought I had burned out the blade again. Good thing it was home built AND I was i...

Make some thickened epoxy to fill your divets. Just use saw dust. Mix it into the epoxy until its about as thick as peanut butter. use clear packing tape to keep it in the places you want it and off the surfaces that you don't. It'll be a bit darker than the wood on the side walls. Here's a gizo I m...

The home depot in my area has all kinds of brass fittings that work just fine for this. I think they are called flared fittings. I know they have a 3/8" to 1/4" adapter (female to male).

What about setting it up as a kit? I have been having the person interested come over and do the work of the layup. I supply the pre made parts, expertise and equipment. They do the layup and make the skis themselves. This was a suggestion from my friend who used to make weed hopper planes. To avoid...

mittons, hats, ski pants. Some of my early gear was made by my dad. I had a two parks, a down vest, and down parka. There was a company out there called frost line that made kits. I did a search and there was a lot of stuff but not to much useful, but i was not very thorough. For patterns I was thin...

The day job sounds pretty bitchin.... 40-50 days of leave a year?? Where do I sign up?
:D That 40 -50 ski days includes weekends, holidays, and everyother friday off. So that would be about 15-20 days of leave to take which is still pretty nice... considering the way they let me use it.
