We use wood sidewalls. They have been working great so far (15-25 days on each of the skis with just minor chips on one that we filled with some epoxy). We also wet out the fg on a separate piece of uhmw before layup after our first build. We did this after watching the kingswood video as well as so...

Lite Steel Beams
Has anyone read anything about the lite steel beams seen in the website below? http://www.litesteelbeam.com/index.html I saw an add for these in fine homebuilding magazine and wondered if they could be used instead of i beams or 2"x2" steel tubing to construct a ski press. From the website...

We use 2 to 4 inches of hot glue in 4 different places on each ski. I bet you could use less or more and it wouldn't matter. I put it roughly 1 foot back and 1 foot forward of the middle of the ski. Comes off plenty easy. It is attaching to UHWM though so I don't know if this would work on aluminun....

my brother and I used vertically laminated bamboo in our first skis we built. I think what has already been said is true about bamboo. As for core thickness, my view is that the three numbers you are used to hearing (tip, mid, and tail thickness) don't matter nearly as much as the profile of the cor...

How much wood do you guys take off on each pass or how many passes do you typically need to do to take your core down from start to finish? I profile the same way and we usually take off a very small amount each time. I think we probably take off 1mm each time for a total of 10-12 passes since we st...

New skis are done and mounted today. These are going to be a lightweight spring/summer pair. They are 2450 grams with G3 bindings and 1800 grams before we mounted them. We also pressed these at 50psi to try and squeeze a little more epoxy out. The cordura bags are still going strong. Specs and info:...

I think using 5 fire hose air bags is a great idea. I bet this will help with the lengthwise deflection quite a bit. I never thought about it because we had the larger yellow fire hose and that wasn't easy to track down in the first place. I like your idea and I think it wouldn't be bad to use two s...

Cloth fabric ski press
I have wanted to make a thread that shows some ideas on how to build a ski press if you plan on using fabric like Plywood or I have done. I got an email from a guy in France that wants to build a ski press using the cloth bags and he sent a very nice cad drawing on what he is planning to build. He s...

cloth press frame
Chrismp -- The blue cloth in the video is the old duck cloth that eventually ripped a couple months ago. That blue stuff was basically the same fabric that carhartt jeans are made with. The gray/silver looking cloth we have been using lately is the 1000 cordura nylon fabric that MontuckyMadman so gr...

Here is a short 2 minute time lapse video I put together of our very first pair of skis we built. This was back when we used to have a dual ski press and a canvas cloth frame. Youtube stripped the music so it isn't as interesting.
