The double sided carpet tape you can get at the hardware store is cloth instead of fiberglass. This is what we use to attach the tip spacers to the core after cleaning everything and it works fine. Is there a reason not to use the double sided tape? http://lh4.ggpht.com/_WWlE16CVFao/SV7hwC1hzmI/AAAA...

Really slick boards doughboy. That one on the left looks like a monster! How long is it?

this has been done on here too. Carpathian built a ski like this and then we did to for our first ski because we thought it would be easier to start with and wanted to try it out. It turned out way, way too stiff so we can't really say one way or the other, but i think there are much better shapes t...

I guess I don't think concave bases would provide much better performance on a pair of skis because they really aren't all that wide in the first place. A surf board is pretty big and the concavity isn't probably all that much proportionally. Maybe this would be useful on a snowboard. I would imagin...

we did it freehand with a small bosch colt "bably" router. It wasn't too bad but it was an extra step.

DBS - are you going to do it on your boards?

Powderho - those look so sweet! Do you have a profile shot? The tips and tails don't look like they have much turned-up-ness which would be nice for pow. We do the 3/4 edge bending because is it easier (even though we still suck bad at bending edges and getting super awesome edge fit). Falls - thank...

We have cut out the "shoulder" on one pair out of 7 now. The bases have been flat on all 7 pairs though so I don't think it is necessary. To get flat bases you need a flat bottom mold for your press (and maybe a cattrack if you have a narrow or wide hose). At least that is what I can deter...

Thanks for the comments. vinman - the skis are very similar to a rossi s7. I think the s7 is 145-115-123 (in 176cm long) and ours is 138-111-122 (in a 170cm length). The camber and early tip/tail rise looks similar to our other friend who is on the s7's. Our ski didn't come out with much camber unfo...

7th pair almost done

We built another pair over the past couple days for a friend. They are 170cm long 138 - 111 - 122 (more like 5 dimension skis though) Turning radius is 19.3m, sidecut is 9.5mm, and running length = 121cm. The tip rocker is 34cm from the very tip, and tail rocker is 15cm The cores were poplar and ash...

the first drawing is what i just built with a 45cm total length. I think it rises 1.5cm in 34cm and another 4.5cm in the last 11cm. The smooth transition is what I was aiming for. I guess I am not sure why you would want a non smooth transition.

Hi Mike, I think this service would be very nice. I am in the same boat as Doughboy though, in that I have been drawing everything in SolidWorks '05. I have had two different small businesses cut out templates for me in the past. I usually save the files as a .dxf and email it to them. I guess I don...

I really shouldn't be that surprised. I bought them in 2000 and have skied on them a lot (probably 100-250 times). They are just old and very fatigued. I should have replaced the other plastic piece when the first one snapped. I will definitely bring an extra one in the car until I switch to hh's. T...

I broke the other plastic plate on the other ski this weekend. I always stuck up for G3's but now I am scared to ski fast on these bindings. The next pair of skis I build (hopefully soon) will have the hammerheads on them.

KW, what did you think of the Icelantics? I see a lot at Loveland. The construction looks really good, but they are so short.
