It effects both torsion and stiffness.

Innegra/carbon

Thank you Sammer. The total weight of one ski is 3 kg with binding. Without I don´t really know, but the same lay up but with basalt fiber instead of Innegra/carbon is heavier especially in swing weight. I had no problems with lay up and it´s not bulky at all. The combo is thin and easy to work wi...

Innegra/carbon

Hello, I haven´t posted here for a long while. I have turned 70 and I am still both making skis and ski as often as I can. In my latest pair I have made use of innegra the lightest fiber there is. It is wowen together with a carbon fiber. Normally carbon fiber is brittle, but together with innegra ...

Hello OAC, I´m here lurking watching over you guys, but I have not been writing anything for a long time. Since I am a dental technician I have to point out that the dentist doesn´t actually make the crowns or bridges. They merely prepare and install and put most of the money in their pockets. The m...

If you make one pair of sidewall skis and a one pair with the exact same composition, but instead of sidewall a cap. The cap ski will be stiffer. When you bend a sidewall ski in a turn you will get a smooth transition where longitudinal and torsional stiffness work together. The cap ski has a much m...

Endre I have to go with G-man on this one. The reason a capped ski is stiffer under foot is form stiffness. A curved surface is stiffer than a straight one. Compare it with a boat hull. A straight sided one is much more flimsy then a curved one if the dimension is the same. A ski is even more compli...

G-man, I agree with you. I prefer a higher camber to a lower one except if the ski is extremely stiff. Skis that seem to have a low camber might not really have that. I think we measure it differently. If you lay a ski flat on a table the camber will flatten out a bit. More if the ski is soft. If yo...

Hello Greg, I live in Umea, it´s 270 km south of Lulea. By the way I have been out skiing today. Lots of snow but spring conditions. Make your self a pair of all mountain skis. Alex, I use a more flexible epoxy now. For the other I used 9% flexibilizer. The last three pairs have rubber on tips, tails and the edges. The hollow fiber doesn`t cover the edges just fill the space between edges, base and the core. If you can`t get hold of any rubber, let the hollow fiber go all ...

I have had a lot to do at my ordinary job, so I haven't had much time for ski production but three more pairs have been pressed. One of which has been sold. The latest with basalt fiber is a real hit. They have that elusive quality pop. Lots of it. It´s like this with pop, if you have to ask what it...

I hope you don´t try to press the skis with the base turned the way it is on picture 4. The rough side is the one treated for bonding to epoxy.

Collin it´s a common misconception that Titanium is expensive. On the contrary it´s dirt cheap, even if prices have increased the last year. Still it is one of the least expensive metals around. Here is a quotation from American Metal Market: "Titanium's ingot, sponge and scrap variations all h...
