I would be curious to hear how the chain/sprocket works out over such a long x axis. I think your problems may involve adequately tensioning the chain with the MDF mounts. Chains tend to stretch with time so you may need to recalibrate frequently. In my experience, you don't need wonderful resolutio...

I did the math on something like this a while back. (the thread is around here somewhere) I came very close to building one but ultimately went a different route. My thought process was that skis/boards are essentially a 2D structure. The direction you are "forcing" your resin is essential...

cores are fun. we use a profiling jig like mark made in the photo seen below: http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i99/neclassic/snowboard/snowboard002.jpg http://www.skibuilders.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=992&highlight=crib+mdf We add shims in the front and back to help keep the profiler from los...

Also check out laser cutters. They back fill with nitrogen and can cut wood.

The biggest cost is layout/programming. If you can export in .dxf it can make things easier.

I had that same Burton! I remember thinking at the time that it completely ripped! I actually saw someone riding one the other day at Snowbird. I wish I still had mine.

I would think you would be fine with the AL in the planer. I cut 6061 square tube with a $15 plywood blade on my miter saw. After 100+ cuts it still does a great job on wood. However, the blades for your planer could be a bit more expensive of an experiment. I have also nicked AL I was using as a fe...

There are these fasteners that are primarily used for cheap furniture (like Ikea). Essentially, they are two rings with a threaded rod between them. The rings sit flush in the work piece and the rod connects them. As you tighten the rod, it pulls the two rings together and the pieces remain flush. I...

I have imported into SWX. I used the DXF editor. You are right in that they import as a series of points not lines. I have found that it is easier to start from scratch with a base sketch and then export as a full size pdf. Once I have all of the relations defined in SWX, it is easy to change dimens...

It may be possible you are over sanding your sidewalls. I remember reading a paper sometime ago about bonding UHMW and seeing a graph with a Gaussian type distribution for abrading vs bond strength. I also wonder how too much abrading will effect surface energies. I will try to track down the ref. E...

If the board is trashed, have you tried to pull the top sheet, etc off of the top of the sidewall? Any difference? Does this happen on all of your boards?

Spotted a pair of your boards at Solitude on Sunday. Looked pretty cool. The guy said they were his sons.

Hmmm. Odd then that they are called Vibration Damping Strips.

So in summary: Do VDS strips cause "dampening" or damping? ;)
