Thanks guys! @COSurfer: sure I read all the links you suggested! Thing is, I can get most of the parts like the steel and linear rails (Igus Drylin W type) for free. Buying a kit would be nice, but much more expensive. Could you do me a favor and measure the dimensions of your gantry beam? @OAC: I k...

CNC mill beam deflection
Well, I might be building a CNC router over the next year and I'm currently in the process of making some design choices. Here's a couple of renders (sorry for the bad quality, the Rhino renderer takes some getting used to): http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/files/big/5ebj-23.jpg http://www.bilder-hoc...

that last design is looking really good! using full wood for the archs is deinitely the way to go. i guess you could do well even without choosing hardwood. for our base layers (the pink boards) we use 27mm formboard, which basically is a three layer plywood. http://holzco-doka.ch.celsius.ch-meta.ne...

cheers. seems like i've been the only one to address that issue in my press design. i think it just wasn't that obvious until the double wides popped up. maybe the other cloth press guys could chime in on that topic? have a look at this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a4AMjXalupo at about 1:17...

your hose is another concern i have. actually i would make the press a little narrower than your flat hose so the hose does bulge out the cordura. this way your wood structure is supported by the hose across the whole press width. otherwise i think your structure would bend along the hose (the shopv...

i totally agree with alex13. i thought about doing a design similar to yours, but finally decided against it for the above mentioned reasons. we figured that using boards in a direction they have more strength in would be better even if we couldn't get that big of an ark out of it without making it ...

@OAC: haha, nope no autofeeder. what we have is a 500kg steel monster from the 1960ies. sniped it on a local classified for about 300 Eur! @shopvac: i wouldn't do the profiling with our bandsaw. yes, it is pretty accurate indeed, but setting up the fence that well is a pain in the you know where ;) ...
