Re: Edges and Fiberglass

Edges and Fiberglass are still available. I'm kind of surprised, but I guess peeps aren't ski building like they use to. Someone make an offer--like half of what I'm asking. Or maybe $50 for all? Or a 30-pack?

Edges and Fiberglass

I have (15) edges 84" long for $50 for sale. And I have some Vectorply 22oz triax fiberglass that is 6.25" wide for sale. It is already cut to length, and there is enough for 4 pairs of skis. (easily enough length for 190's, but I don't remember the exact length offhand). $75. Text me at (...

Free Ski Press -- Salt Lake area

The time has come to get rid of the ski press and clear up some space. I haven't used it in about 9 years, but it still should be good to go. I pressed around 90 pairs of skis with this guy. I have only used the one mold that is in there now. There is a heat pad on the bottom that pretty much covers...

Oh no.......twisted skis! Literally my biggest fear when I pull my skis from the press. I had 3 pair in a row come out twisted a couple of years ago and I couldn't figure out why. I ended up decided it was the fiberglass I used because nothing else made any since. The glass I used on those three pai...

did some research and maple and birch and beech are not very durable. Maple, birch etc are not rated as very durable. Thanks for turning me on to the Siberian Larch--I will definitely check it out. But I really have to question why you think maple is not durable. I have used it in dozens of pairs o...

Your in Salt Lake? Composite One carries Vectorply. They make a couple of different bias carbon fabrics. You will probably have to buy an entire roll though.

When I read 'fleece' this is what I thought of: http://www.freemansupply.com/AirtechUltraweaveB.htm We use this stuff all the time at work but as a process material. It never ends up in the finished product. It's used to control the resin bleed out and resin flow during cure. Maybe this fleece is us...

I bet the fleece is to help keep the epoxy under control. Maybe its giving them flatter bases? I doubt it provides much structural effect or dampening benefit. Have you used any innegra yet? I built a pair a couple years ago with a layer in it. I built an identical pair minus the innegra to compare...

why don't you like bamboo sidewalls? Bamboo seems to have very open grains and a lot of short loose ends that start to stick out over time. It also absorbs a lot more moisture than my first choice--maple. A few friends of mine leave their skis in the back of their truck for most of the ski season a...

I agree!! From your first post when I saw The Dalles, I was like Oh man! Really! You guys knocked us out of the state tournament 4 times. When I was 12 in little league, 15 in the Babe Ruth league, and then my freshman and sophomore years in varsity baseball. I think you guys won state both those y...

One PID controller to control 2 heat pads.......with one TC? What am I missing here? I know, I know! That's what the guy wanted, One PID, two SSR's, two mats, one thermocouple, 240VAC. I tried to get him to get another PID, but he didn't want to. If I put one TC on the top cassette piece towards th...

I've used a 1x6 piece of poplar from Home Depot for a core (and sidewalls) before. It worked just fine. It was a bit more difficult to profile down--it didn't want to stay flat, but the skis turned out great. I thought they would break super easily but they didn't. At the time, they were the softest...

I use all bamboo. Since I get flooring boards, I have to rip off the tongue and groove, and end up with boards a little under 4" wide. For "normal" skis I'll glue 3 of these together with normal wood glue (I use Titebond III) and cut that into two cores, for powder skis I need two of...
