Re: profiling cores

@101: I just invested in a Felder AD741, not entirely for ski building but almost...:-). It's quite similar to the Hammer A3 41 you looking at. I don't know all the differences, but I choose the Felder for the electronic control of the planing table and it's more robust. I also choose the option wit...

OAC expanding in 2019

I don't know where this will end, but it's worth a try. Since I belong to the seniors, by age, on this site I can inform you that I've been on early retirement the last six months. This means that I have heaps of time, theoretical, doing what ever I want, theoretical. So I will use some savings to e...

Fun to see that I'm still on the top 10 list! :D As said, doing this for +10 years, I've more or less cemented my process the last 5 years. And the project that was only supposed to produce 1 pair(!) of skiable skis, has now grow to a bussiness. Therefore, in my case, not so much time. You never kno...

Just a thought about pliers. If one not doing a full edge all the way to/around the tip and tail and just doing a 3/4, annealing the edges, there is no need for pliers. Just a "light" bend by hand is usually enough. I found it even better than using pliers. I get a much smoother/better follow betwee...

Pro tip: (Just kidding, more of a 10y experience of pressing w. vacuum) Annealing the tip and tail of the edges, pre-bend the tip (and if neceesary the tail) of the edges. Makes life much easier. Especially if there are "steep rise" on tip and tail. Even if the vacuum is strong enough for the rest o...

Works!
Now I can do 4 bases (probably more) in one pass and no warping!
Thanks Vin for the tip on this one!

A tip on base warp. Warm your base material with your heat blankets on a flat surface to ~120F for 10-15 min to allow it to relax. Let it cool back to room temp before cutting. Plastics like these have a “thermal memory. Warming them like this takes this out. This was taught to me by a guy (my...

Just showing off. :D So you can see that I'm still active. This year, one new model for the big mountains. I call it "R112"(no picture on it yet). There is a little sister of it, "R102", pictured on the left in the first picture. The other two are the piste machine, "W78". The black and orange has a...

"It's always something..." :-)
I had the same experience a couple of pairs ago. Forgot to sand the tipspacers properly and didn't flame treat. After "redoing" that part everything was good again. I think you will be good! Happy travel and skiing.
