The undeniable advantage is that heat makes the epoxy cure faster. A 4-6hr cure can be turned to 45 minutes. Heat also helps the epoxy cure better, resulting in better mechanical properties. Stronger, more durable, etc. It has been debated here lately whether the 45minutes of heating during curing i...

The reason for it is you can make the press for $100. same goes for a cordura press and pressure distribution is easier with cordura bags. Right, I meant fabric presses in general. My press is cordura as well, and I think that the cordura is in most ways preferable to the dyneema. The main advantag...

It definitely is possible to squeeze too much epoxy out. At what point that happens I couldn't say, and would depend on your specific layup and expoy selections, but don't think that you can up your pressure indefinitely and not end up with too little resin. Maybe you would be better off at somethin...

dyneema rope may stretch too much which will allow the press to flex/bend. I don't know if OP is still considering this, but It's not all that bad of an idea. Dyneema doesn't stretch all that much, depending on how it's made. Or at least in the rock climbing community dyneema slings are known to st...

Take this as advice of someone who's read this forum but doesn't have direct experience. Welded beams should be ok if you hold them together like this (ignore the text): http://www.skilab.com/misc/skibuilders/VariableTopMold01b.jpg or like this: http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u242/rockaukum/IMAG...

I think there's two ways of going about this. 1. Copy an existing design point for point as closely as possible. 2. Make up some sort of hybrid of the skis you're looking at. Make up the dimensions. One is 108 under-foot and one is 115? Easy, yours should be 112. The first method will give something...

Yea, something I'm slowly realizing. Just pulled out the skis after two more hours (for a total of 6) and they're done. I didn't run the heater at all, but when I pulled them they were still warm from before. Which was encouraging. Overall not a complete success, but certainly not a complete failure...
