Complete set of gear for working ski press + misc supplies
Ski press equipment for sale. This ski press needs a good home. A friend and I built this ski press a few years ago. I have young kids now and am not making use of it and my friend is now living in the UK. Features: -Steel square and u-beam construction -Heating mat with temperature controller to cu...

I have been playing around with the SS and had some questions. I am unsure of the orange and green plots for deflection and what they are showing. If I change the length of ski, they don't follow with the change, can someone help me understand this. Also, the array of point deflections at the lower...

One thing to make users aware of... the results are sensitive to the void ratio that you assume (glass fibre to resin ratio). The reason for this is that the stiffness of the ski is very sensitive to thickness (goes up to the power 3). If you use a high pressure in your press then the void ratio wil...

After assuming it wasn't going to be difficult I had/have a lot of problems with this step. I think a combination of using ABS sidewalls which cause a lot of heat when cutting as well as a rather outdated jigsaw are making things difficult, but I have pretty much wrecked a pair of skis trying to cut...

Plywood - I think that your observations on the ABS are spot on - if I cut more than 10cm then it starts melting and sticking to the sawblade. This is part of the reason that I think a band saw may be a good idea because the blade has time to cool down as it runs round the machine and also I can wax...

Hafte - I couldn't get the blades that you suggested as they did not fit my slightly antiquated jigsaw! I know that a bad workman blames his tools, but I think the problem that I am having may be because the jigsaw that I have (a 'craftsman' - from the '40s I think!) has no 'guides' to support the b...

Bambi's skis
I'm going to reverse the trend by starting with the skis and then discussing the build, problems and things that went well. http://ben.arlett.googlepages.com/3.JPG So you are seeing most of the first 3 pairs that I have built. There is a 4th yet to press. The two skis in the middle (rounded rectangl...

Thanks BK, I saw your latest Kewah - looks pretty cool - did you try to locate the rubber damping at points of high shear under natural vibration or did you just put them where you felt it was needed? I just pressed a second pair this evening which went a little slow but I think it was OK - the gara...

BigKam - quite a few of your skis seem to have ~10mm thick cores. With 22oz glass I would expect these to be very soft. Are you typically using additional reinforcement? Do you like soft skis or are my assumptions wrong? I have made 1 pair to date with a 10mm poplar core and I found it to be a littl...

Apologies if this is a bit trivial, but... How close can you get with a jigsaw to the edges when clearing off the flash? Can you brush the edge with the blade or will that mess it up severely? If there is still a small layer of material on the edge of the ski do you file it of prior to routing to cl...
