Re: Desert Skis Log
Finding a base grinder in WA is one of the joys of building skis in Australia!

Re: Desert Skis Log
I've always sanded the topsheets back and refinished afterwards with sprayed on polyurethane. Don't think you will get perfect results out of the press with waxed aluminium cassette. You could try a release film used in vacuum bagging, but I reckon it would be hard to prevent folds in this when pneu...

Re: Desert Skis Log
I had trouble with the sled and thicknesser when I had a small thicknesser like the one you have. Felt that it just didn't have the roller hold down power or feed through power to push a heavy sled and core. I got a carbatec 15 inch model which was much more heavy duty and it works well.

Re: Crisp Customs 2011/12
Just make sure the two pieces align well (ie cut square and straight) and tape them together. I have used contact paper (for covering books - CLEAR) on the underside of the base (ie outside the ski). Peel off after pressing. You can tape the seam internally too with fibreglass tape (plastering tape)...

A lot of the powsurf manufacturers seem to use this tundra grip now either on its own or adhered over EVA foam for a bit more supple feeling.

Its loctite precision 5g. Everyone is always talking about putting too much superglue into the layup so I had been using the precision nozzle to reduce the amount and then had added a finer tip from a skin tissue glue bottle to give even more control. I have used that tip in many pairs without issue...

thanks vin I normally buy a new bottle before each pair, but didn't this time. I think I will start labelling all consumables when they were bought/opened so I can keep better track of the need to replace stuff. I remember headmonkey's site has a lot of stuff about keeping track of your inventory so...

Thanks Vin I think that it maybe it. The bottle has been in the shed for a year or more I would say. I also use a fine tip on the end to give better control and it felt like not as much glue as usual was flowing through this tip on the day. The bottle felt stiff to compress so low glue is possible. ...

thanks for the replies The base came from Miller studio in Seattle likely off a roll they use for their commercial ski company jobs. It looked clean and I am pretty careful with the surface preparation and cleanliness. The edged bases were spray glue adhered to the cassette after the 20 minute super...

Edge Gaps after Pressing
Hi Everyone Just pressed up a new pair of skis and annoyed to find two sections of the edge eased away from the base material by 0.5mm-1mm over about a 10cm length in each case. Hopefully shouldn't be a deal breaker in terms of function but still a disappointment after never having this happen in th...
