skis look clean. Nice work as usual. Do you get any deflection when pressing? A lot of your earlier photos don't work any more. If I ever build another press, it will be very similar to your design. No deflection when pressing, camber came out where I wanted it. I pressed at 180 deg F top and botto...

As I said in another post (http://www.skibuilders.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=1348&start=60) I have a problem with the frame bending a little bit under pressure, not even that much pressure, just 40 PSI... resulting in skis with convex bases. I measured about 1,5 mm of deflection over the 16&quo...

Here are a couple more pairs I made up for my friend and his fiancé two weeks ago right before catching an awesome Tahoe storm cycle. The pair on the left is a 165 cm with 140 mm underfoot and the big sticks are a 195 cm w/ 150 mm underfoot in the reverse/traditional sidecut style that I have been t...

Here are some new sticks I built last weekend. A 190 cm Explosiv is there for reference. The new skis are a true 195 cm length, and you can see they are pretty big as I am 6'6". I built 4 pair on Christmas day and am currently in Bozeman testing them out, so a full description will follow once ...

Excellent looking skis. What was the thickness difference between your core and tipspacer that you stepped with the glass? How did the fit come out?

Second question, who did you use to print your topsheet graphics and what material is it?

Keep up the solid work.

Go to the source. Crown Plastics is the Durasurf manufacturer. They are really good about smaller orders. My first order was only 50 ft of base and topsheet and they were cool with it. Ask about the excess materials list and you can buy for pretty cheap. They usually have a bunch of different colors...

With regard to press deflection, there is no real measurable deflection across the long axis of the press. I matched the vertical stays specific to the brackets they pin into, so the fit is nice and tight so there is no slop from one stay to the next. I have run the pressure up to 100 psi, keeping i...

So a little over a year ago I finished a ski press and still haven't gotten to test it out yet. Between graduating from college May 2007, proceeding to get bounced around America by my job and living in hotels for 6.5 months, and finally buying a house 3 months ago things have been busy. The good ne...

Carbon Fiber on the bottom, in tension, is really a waste of the material. C.F. is much better in compression than tension. If you want to get some life and pop to you skis, especially with an increase in camber, put your C.F. on the top side of the core. Glass is about the same in tension and compr...

Offset your base template the width of the edge and use your router to cut the 1.8-2.2mm almost all of the way. In the tip and tails, stop as close to the end point of your edges as possible. Take a razorblade and make a cut perpendicular to the stop point on your tip/tail curve back towards your of...

For raw ski materials, I tracked my expenses quite extensively and I built my first 5 pairs at a cost of $62.35/pair. Now this was also by buying overstock Base/Topsheet material from Durasurf, and hustling up discount material for Triax glass and West Systems Epoxy because I was testing them for co...

Excellent looking first pair!!! Your setup looks really nice and the press looks killer. Couple of questions for you with regard to your setup and skis: -What are the dimensions? -What is the ski composition (Composites, topsheet, graphics, core, etc.)? -What kind of method did you use for bending y...

Linseed oil is about the best thing I have ever used to treat wood. There are a couple of Komatik style sleds hauling around portable hot water drills in Antarctica that I built and sealed with linseed oil that are standing up to the elements down there. It is cheap, not chemical like so much other ...
