Using vinyl decals under epoxy works great as long as it has a MATTE finish. Do not use a gloss finish. It won't take epoxy well. Also, you can get 24k gold vinyl, already swirled, so you can skip gold leaf. Gold leaf is time consuming and almost never looks as good as it could. It's quite the art t...

bubbles So, the thing to do is to use fine-grained sandpaper and work both surfaces of the veneer. But what about 4 oz glass. Will it still give bright picture of veneer through it? Thank you for fruitful advice, I appreciate it Yep, You need to think smooth. Like, babies bottom smooth. Start with ...

Motoman That right there is one of the problems using topsheet directly over veneer. You have to sand the veneer incredibly smooth, and take super care to not trap ANY air between the two surfaces when you do your layup. However, There is still the risk that air will travel up through the veneer fro...

If you double print, or lay down more ink on your transfer paper you can achieve brighter colors.

However unless you have a RIP you will have a tough time achieving that as you actually need to be able to control the printer beyond what most printers allow out of the box.

Hi amidnightproject how much pressure are you putting through that thing and what time and heat are you using because I'm about ready pull my hair out trying to get the combination right. Also what type of blanket are you using under the top sheet, it looks quite thick. I've got a 5mm silicone rubb...

The biggest reason for a RIP is consistency for reproduction or large runs. If you are a weekend builder and don't do multiples of the same thing then the best thing is to print directly out of your graphic software and 'learn' your printer. What I mean is, if your printer tends to over saturate blu...

This is sort of ski building, sort of not. So I've been running off a microsoft suface pro 4, for awhile now. I used to use quite the workhorse of a desktop PC for the longest time and over the last year or so, it's slowly been dying due to component degradation. It's been used as my print machine s...

Entropy clear coat. I have boards that are 5 years old now. And look fantastic still. I've had great luck with epoxy coats for durability. Better durability the top sheet in fact. if you smash an edge into it it just sort chips then is done. Smashing edges into top sheet you get tears then can poten...

That's interesting Falls! I hadn't run into that yet. Probably because innegra is still a relatively new material and there aren't a whole lot of people using it for our type of application. I see alot of people vacuum molding it which would allow for greater epoxy penetration. I think I'm going to ...

Haha no need to apologize for hijacking the thread! Honestly I'm glad to see people I haven't seen in awhile post again! The vector net is cool. Naturally I was impatient and didn't want to wait so I made my own! I also got the impression that was stretchy? I'm going to order some up and give it a g...

What's the story with the shaping of the topsheet at one end prior to layup Chris? Hehe  You know that saying where you are supposed to double check your measurements twice? What happened is I sublimated the topsheet way before I decided on what length ski I was going to make. I was originall...

Great work! You posted a photo of the carbon roving on G+ before ;) You're right! Thanks! So here's the carbon matrix I made for the tip and tail. Thinking about the forces that get applied this is what I came up with. I have a jig I've created for doing this. The tape on the outside is just fiberg...

Volition Skis - 2016 and beyond

Well, I haven't posted much of anything I quite awhile. I'd like to post often again and I'll try to remember to do so. Building skis has been a damn fun way to fund the winter season (i'll be it stressful at times) but I can't seem to stop with it! So here's the last thing I built. Finally a put to...
