The hardness of the epoxy isn't going to be the issue when the edges are steel. Base material will always be slicker ... Zia.ch appears to over specify the thickness of their base material. The logic must be that they prefer to grind the base down to the edge and avoid grinding the base and the edge...

Sure, that would save the most epoxy, but when I cut dry fabric slightly off axis it starts to fray. I think this is a common experience with skis, maybe not so much snowboards though. What I'm experimenting with at the moment is about reducing the amount of material within the press, getting a sens...

I would speak to your epoxy supplier about these issues - especially cure cycle. If you have measured out your epoxy correctly, allowing for waste on the layup table and a little flow, then you should be good to apply full pressure. The figure I have quote allows for a bit waste etc, but you will co...

You do save on epoxy. If you are using ambient cure epoxy, the opportunity to add a bit of heat under the table will aid impregnation and increase the quality of the laminate. The same is true for heat cure ... but heating to 25oC does not change the viscosity of the resin that much. Anything above ...

Layup Table
I was wondering what peoples experience are? I've been thinking about the pro's and con's. One thought I have in mind, it creates the opportunity to cut the fibre to shape in advance of use, limiting/minimising the amount of flash. Silicone paper/baking paper (Twizz style) appears to be a good carri...

Dude, it's an idea for those who are considering how to resolve the issue of core shift and or issues with poor tip compliance/excess epoxy at the tip and tail. I have a variation up and running using a few additional bits and pieces. As pumps are not designed for this purpose, a relief valve should...

Following on from Twizz ... Can you find these in the US: http://www.cosyfloor.com/Products/ECOMAT-Underfloor-Elements.aspx, 20 GBP for a 6ft length. They will heat up to around 20- 30oC, just plug them into 240v. Per: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TNVSJaVR4XI @ 2.58, create a layup space and put t...

I understand Cedar can be used, so saying Cedar is difficult to bond would be like saying plastics are difficult to bond, however the same logic and test can be applied i.e. testing to see what process improves how wettable the surface of the wood appears. The pictures show a thin layer of wood fibr...

Some interesting features: http://vimeo.com/74486848 The cat-track cannot move laterally. Linear activators pre-position the track and assist in ensuring positive pressure is maintained at the tips. We don't need to independently heat the tips, as our ramp rates are slower. Linear activators are not...
