Moisture cure urethane will protect the edges of the topsheet and the laminate.

Leaf skis used a polyurethane and it worth considering.

Oil and wax ... fairly pointless.

Chrismp,

Congratulations on the teaching job.

Are your drawings something you would be willing to share? I wouldn't mind a copy myself )

MM, I think you mean previous evolution of mongo press have been poorly built. Unlike this one:

The Mongo press was just the starting point (as far as I am aware). I would be cautious with the design - too many issues Have you're head around this thread: http://skibuilders.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=2044&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=15 You want to contain the pressure using an ex...

Dude. Quick, easy and cheap to make aka: Mongo style press. http://www.skibuilders.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=1867&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0&sid=f48f21576ca45de3f26677e0ef4a5464 The best example has been built by Chrismp. You need to look at his press in terms of effective con...

Greeting ) Just need to checked whether you have seen Chrismp's press. Quite possibly the most effective design - just missing a thermal cover ) Enjoy: https://vimeo.com/60566948 And there are a couple of factory video's with this type of press design: http://skibuilders.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=3...

A question for the boarders, I was wondering whether anyone had tried drilling laterally, into the core and filling with urethane - with a view to altering the lateral stiffness of the core.

It sounds like you have a really interesting plan in mind and I look forward to seeing it sketched or stitched together. Great to hear you've found someone who can help with the tuning the motors!

Have you sketched out the design? It would be great to see.

I wondering why you rejected two balls screws one motor? I would have though this was a great solution if racking is a worry?

Nii, wow. Guru!!!

Ryme, Are you using epoxy mixed with teak oil? Or applying epoxy then teak oil? Does teak oil polymerise over time? Paraffin wax is the best wood sealant. I don't have the technical paper to hand, but its better than most other products, surviving the seven day immersion test. Personally, I mix it w...

The terminology I've added should help narrow the issue and enable a bit of reading and such like. CTE of carbon and glass fibre, spring-back/forward are all discussed on the web, as are the do's and don't for finding a solution. The trick is to ignore the maths, pick-up on the main points and reach...

Before you do anything, take it outside in the snow and confirm the size of the error. You will need to let the ski assume the ambient temperature before taking a measurement. Overnight would be good. Some of this maybe process, but its due in large part to the relative coefficient of thermal expans...

If the motors and drivers were cutting aluminium on another machine, I don't see why you should think they won't on you design. The rails you have are made of solid stuff, this is above the minimum I have seen used on large format machines cutting deeply into 2 inch aluminium plate. Take a look at J...
