Re: Section8-titanal

Phosphoric Acid Anodize (PAA) is one of the best bonding preps out there. Pretty much the "gold standard" for metal bonding prep. At work we have PAA done on aluminum coupons for adhesive characterization tests that we use in the Inston tensile tester. As an alternative I have had good res...

Re: Calculating the Radius

Don't get too hung up about the "radius" of a ski. The method you found that Atomic published is the same as how FIS requires the measurement to be made to determine the legality of using a particular ski in competition (gotta keep a level playing field). Do a search for the FIS Specificat...

I really like the oscillating belt and spindle sander made by Ridgid tools. The oscillating helps the belt or spindle wear more evenly. By using the belt along the edge it prevents putting too much pressure on any one area and helps give a smooth edge along the entire length. No subtle nicks from a ...

No problem here visualizing it in my head. Just trying to put some numbers to scallop height so people can understand the variables that go into producing it, no matter if you use cutter compensation, handwrite your g-code, or generate it with a CAM program. Regardless, scallop size is a function of...

The scallop height on a 3axis machine from a 1.25" spoil board cutter is pretty small when looking at what it is doing while cutting a ski core. I was curious so I drew it up in CAD to measure it. Assuming a 10mm thickness change over a length of 800mm (about half the length of a slalom ski, 12...

I'm interested in how you like the rc-2241. It's nice that is ~$50 less than the rc-2250. One thing I like about the 2250 is it still has cutters on the bottom surface that will cut all the way to the centerline of the tool. Because it cuts to the centerline you can plunge and don't always have to r...

Amana RC-2250. Works great and has indexable/replaceable cutters. https://www.amazon.com/Amana-Tool-Surfacing-Rabbeting-Flycutter/dp/B0035GWKCW/ref=pd_sbs_469_1?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B0035GWKCW&pd_rd_r=FPB898KN3CFHPKZ8095Z&pd_rd_w=0EOxV&pd_rd_wg=LjbmC&psc=1&refRID=FPB898KN3C...

The freewheel is held on with just a nut on the shaft of the eccentric tensioner. The drive side has a square key between the motor shaft and the wheel. If you don't already have it, here is the owners manual with a parts breakdown. http://www.fontaineskituning.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/Fontain...

Are all the Sports Authority stores closed nationwide yet? I picked up 3 at a MN store for $20 each (2 Adult, 1 Jr.) when they were closing up. The Grindrite style one would not be too difficult to build. Just need access to a sheet metal stretcher/shrinker to curve some aluminum angles and then riv...

I'd have to go back and look, but off hand, I think around 15,000 RPM and 150 ipm? This puts the chip load at 0.005. I just looked and see that this agrees with the recommended feeds/speeds.

Twizz, That sounds like how I built mine and later gketcham's. The flat section on the middle tooth I found helps stabilize the tang on the edge and it lines up the two outside nipper teeth with the edge. The only thing I can think of is that maybe the outside teeth on the nipper, where they contact...

I usually do a 4 part edge (not doing many twin tip skis though). A machined aluminum inset on across the tail of the ski, and then a curved section 3-4 inches long that wraps around the tip. The few twin tips I've done have this same 3-4 inch section around the tail. That leaves two long pieces for...
