weight reduction

since last post we made two more pairs -using vacuum bag in autoclave at 80 psi---- at 90 psi the fibers start to look too dry . we use wood all the way to tip with all cap construction and no top sheet ,i guess we are in the ballpark as my buddy's--black diamond megawatts are 0.25 lbs lighter /pair...

---any one know if they put the carbon on the top of the core just to ensure camber stays equal to mold during cool down? --- what i am seeing in some commercial skis where you can see through the top and bottom sheet is tows of carbon fiber the length of the ski -but it is hard to figure out exactl...

convex shape?

yes makes you wonder? and you would think the dip in the path of diagonal strands would also get rid of any torsional stiffness outboard of the groove as well? seems all thier skis have some couture shapes

powder bounce

remember the powder bounce? we all took our old long alpine skis set them up for tele and the bounce gave back a nice spring up out of the snow --- it was like falling down the mountain from minitramp to next minitramp and little effort if correct pitch and depth/density is it just the small support...

megawatt-------- anyone think the deep groves in the top side areas of the megawatt cores is designed to be a weaker area along the edge and allow flex away from the snow under hard pressure?(rounded bottom result?)

core springs out of rocker mold

past ski tips we used thick base and preformed to fit bottom mold- it would lay nice to the shape---we have used drywall nails and taper sanded the heads down to "razor thin" and glued them to the base for alignment with matched core holes ----problem now--trying first rocker ski based on ...

read articles on debulking composites. you don't want the topsheet to pinchdown on edges and stop resin evacuation make sure your vacuum lines and bleeder paths have good manifolding flow to all areas at pressure, make sure you have ample area of breather past edge of topsheet to soak up resin- (doub...

i moved from press to autoclave two years ago as we are doing this for low volume runs of various models :some autoclave advantages include:use for more than just skis,---- graphite ski boots?---no large heavy bottom & top die to build for each ski ,possible to stack many cookie sheets (cassette...

precambered core

we have been playing around changing the camber on a testbed pair of skis going from zero to 1/4" then 1/2" then 5/8" , finding out a little change in camber makes a hugh difference as to how they ski do any major ski producers cut out the cores with shape/camber would it make the ski...
