Yes, the stripes come from an exotic wood veneer (I've forgotten which).

The pale one has the original color and the red one was dyed with a water based dye.

I've finished my second pair last week and had the chance to try them last night. http://farm1.static.flickr.com/164/406805201_6f474da82c_o.jpg I have used 34 oz triaxial fiberglass instead of 22 oz. I was hoping that the skis might come out stiffer but the fiberglass did not "wet" so well...

I believe SBM gets its VDS in 12'' (30cm) roll. I've ordered a big quantity and i've received a 12'' roll (hopefully containing the amount i've ordered).

I think they just cut 1'' strips from the bigger roll.

It is going to be a very good thing to have another supplier than SBM for all the basic elements. Their products are alright, but their never seem to be able to have everything in stock all at once. They are also kind of slow for shipping. I hope this new aspect of your skibuilders project will have...

VDS rubber

SBM is out of VDS.

I need 8 meters to complete my second pair of skis.

Can anyone spare this amount and sell it to me??

Shipping would be to Canada.

Thanks

I used the low pressure lay flat hose stated above. Got it from Mcmaster.com. It worked out fine, but be careful with sharp edges in your press frame ( even wood edges) because i'm not sure the hose will hold 60psi when forced against a sharp corner. Personnally, i pressed my first skis at 30psi. It...

I have similar problem with accuratly cutting a template using a jig saw... Personnaly, i bought a big pair of shears closes to the ones used to cut sheets of metal. I fixed a paper template on the base material and then cut the base. This method produced small irregularities and crushed a little bi...

I would be interested in 150 inserts (10mm or 12mm or a conbination of both).

Will shipping to Canada be a problem ??

I've finish my first pair of ski this week. They have a couple of problems but i'm mostly happy with the results for a first pair. Getting ready for the first layup. http://static.flickr.com/108/255804870_7d13f0f22b_o.jpg I took several minutes to fix the base to the mold but because of the low temp...

Finishing router bits

I'm in the process of finishing my first pair of skis and i need a router bit like the one shown in the finishing page of the how to section. I've seen a lot of models with the right angle and a bearing on top but the bearing always looks to far from the cutting edge.... Any clue on the brand and mo...

I belive that standard carpenter glue creates a bond between to wood piece that is stronger than the wood itself. Laminated boards tend to break somewhere else than in the joint, usually. It's lot cheaper also. Carpenter glue should not be the weakess thing in your skis. Bonding to UHMWPE is more of...
