Packing tape for me. I use the 3m stuff, the heavy duty stuff (I think it says "Packing and Moving "on it). As long as you remember to remove it before it cools everything's fine.

Re: Voids down the middle

Just cut out a splitboard that I pressed only to find some serious voids between the sidewall and base material down the center line of the board. Almost seams like air was trapped in the layup. I've used the same layup technique successfully on a hand full of other boards already with no major iss...

Well, I'm flame treating the inked side of the topsheet and base, not epoxy. But I suppose I'm doing it through a poor understanding of what flaming actually does, and I'm taking the chance that it might improve bonding some. It's a light pass, so i don;t see how it could do any harm. But my questio...

Chimera Snowboards were doing this with their twin tip (the Orb) last year. And it's pretty close to Never Summer's hybrid rocker-camber.

Don't know about skis, but on a board it works well (totally diffeent mechanics, i suppose)...the Never Summer SL is one the greatest boards of all time IMO.

... The other huge mistake that people make is "cleaning" their material with solvent. Solvent damages the flame treatment severely. The worst thing you can do is take factory treated material and wipe it off with solvent, and then lay it up. I've heard this before. I do all my solvent cl...

So, is everyone here flame treating the Crown topsheet material themselves, to be safe? I assume you need to do that prior to any silkscreening you may do, as flame treating ink seems a waste of time.

I wasn't, but I'm thinking I need to do that more.

I'm convinced a drum sander is the only way to go. I've never had success with a planer either. On the last two pairs I did, I actually did a few passes on the planer just to start, then did the rest of the profiling on my base grinder with the autofeed. ..... This interesting as hell to me. I'm ge...

... I have talked to the guys at crown about it and they hate having to corona treat, the bond is not as strong, and the treatment doesn't last as long either ... Really? I've been thinking that Corona treatment was all-time, based on the strength of the bond i get between tipfill and topsheet (as ...

did you rebate the sidewalls for edge teeth? I think not doing the rebate leads to concave bases (at least in my experience). Like he said, this was my first thought. My stuff was coming out concaved until someone here kindly pointed out the error of my ways. Shoulder your sidewalls! And the grinde...

Totally. In fact, you can bend edges with nothing more than a pair or gloves, about $1.24 of washers and a set of dikes for the ends.

If I remember correctly, Donek had some pretty deep insight into this. Pretty sure this will explain it (might have to sit thorugh part II, as well).
