I had the same issue, and solved it just like lennart did, by clamping the base to a template. Once the edges are glued down, they will hold the base in the desired shape.

I just built a pair of skis with thick maple cores, and they are really stiff, but they are quite heavy. I also just made a ski using a 12mm thick ash core, and it is pretty much the stiffest ski I have ever seen (it is also 130mm wide in the center). Also, when I broke a salomon AK Rocket last year...

I don't really think that core setup would have the same bad issues. I would think that it would make the core tend to behave as if it were the average of the two materials and their cross-sections in the core. I know with the Bremallows, I used maple and mahogony in a similar fashion, and had a muc...

To make my heat blanket, I bought a heating blanket at Macy's (formerly the bon marche) because Target didn't have any. The first time I used it, I just folded it up and layed it on top of the ski. This worked okay, but not phenomenally. After the first trial, I ripped apart the blanket, and layed a...

I just put a ski in the press yesterday and got around to putting a thermometer on it as well. My department store modified heat blanket heats the ski up to about 105 degrees F, or about 40 degrees C. This is certainly not extremely hot, but with the epoxy and hardener I am using (QCM ECA-315 and EH...

In my heated blanket press, I haven't experienced this issue at all. I am throwing a ski in there tonight, and I will get a thermometer in there to find out how hot it actually gets.

The pipe nut and washers with 1/4" quick connect is the same setup I use. My leaks all come from the clamps at the ends of the bladder.

Dude, that powder looks really nice and those mountains look huge! Not to mention that the skis look totally awesome. It's good to hear another person agreeing about reverse sidecut in the soft snow. It is a whole world of difference.

December 8 and 9, Alpental, WA

I took the new unnamed pair of boards up to Alpental two days in a row and they performed awesome, except for the delaminations I mentioned in the other forum. I also skiied the Bremallows for a few runs, and they were extremely difficult to manage down the icy and mogulled International run. I took...

I used base material for the topsheet. The more I have been thinking about this, the more I seem to remember not putting a lot of epoxy on the top layer between the topsheet and the top layer of fiberglass because when I mixed up the epoxy, I forgot to plan for the 4 layers of fiberglass I would hav...

On the same line as shoe goo, I used some heavy duty construction sealant/glue. It was pretty flexible (which is necessary) and works really well. My bladder was airtight at one time, but now it leaks a little. One thing to keep in mind though is that the regulator on your compressor won't work very...

Topsheet delaminations

I skied my newest pair of skis the last two days (I will do a full writeup soon), and while they skied great, one of them had a serious topsheet delamination. I think it may have been because I didn't get enough epoxy on it. The fiberglass held together great, and the core is still bent as it is sup...

I have been thinking about making a pair of skis without cutting strips for the core. I am curious how they would turn out. As for the ash, I have a couple cores set up that are made of ash, and they are really stiff and pretty springy (which is a good thing). One thing you might do if you make soli...
