Looks good Neil. Sure glad it was not me cutting the alu, by hand? good for you. On the spacing in the tip and tail area... You might try shimming some more above the top mold to decrease the gap between the two molds. I'm sure others will have some good suggestions also. Looking forward to seeing t...

WhitePine: Yeah the finish stuff is beyond me. I have used the SB topsheet for protection before and that was a pain to get the air out and added weight and more importantly $. So I have gone without it. On my first tye-dye attempt, I used some pretty weak dye and it faded right away. Love the skis ...

I use the table saw, cut one side and flip to cut the other side. Clean up one side and use as the base. move to router jig and profile on the top side.

Goofy is good! I have done both precut and drawn on after. Either way you will need to clean them up. Be unique with your ideas. Just make sure you will be able to attach your skins to them!

Thanks OAC, I must be showing my age.... The last several skis I have done for myself have been tye-dye. You don't see to much of that out there today. The secs for the skis are 186 cm. 138-140-112-128. The camber is 9mm per ski. I have not flexed them yet, so I expect them to relax just a bit. Usua...

So Yesterday I spent a bit of time in the shop working on the skis. Here are a few pics of the process I follow. Our weather is kind of a double edge sword, Bad for skiing but good for working outside. Start out by cutting the flash off http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u242/rockaukum/IMG_3689.jpg ...

new skis

So, I got caught up with making other's boards and skis and It was time to press a new one for me. Layup went good. Still not very fast at it. Seems the most time is taken with getting the epoxy into the teeth of the edges. any suggestions to make it quicker? I try to avoid using too much epoxy as I...

I agree with nate. welded beams work fine if they are set up like the picture above with supports encasing the beam not when they are connected via the center flange.

Got a question on the base. You said you painted with an acrylic paint? Is that all there was to it? Any problems with it? If you wouldn't mind giving a bit more detail on the process and the results that would be great! I've got a bit of clear base and Just don't like the way it looks clear. Thanks...

My guess on the stacked cores is that there is a spacer between them so the tech can grab them easily. Looks like the spacers also are stacked in the lower right.

Enjoy it while you can, soon enough he will be to the point where you won't be able to keep up. At least that is what happened to me!

Correct, These are welded I (like you) think that this was the main culprit as to why their press failed. I continued the weld to the end after pressing the flange back into place. I just wanted to avoid any future possibilities.

Sure you can. However I think you would still need to put some type of break (?) in the pattern so you will have lateral stability for tracking and climbing purposes. I think I have seen them in the fashion as you speek of (straight cut across) with notches or "v's" cut into the straight p...
