New GS Skis
My last season's GS build was too soft I gave it another try this year. I designed a core thickness profile taking measurements on my sister's and her boyfriend's GS skis. I interpolated the profile to my length, adjusted for base, topsheet,.. and loaded the profile into Fusion360 by the ImportSplin...

That's true satch. I am sure there will be gaps where the resins prefers to flow. The risk of wasting a pair of skis would be too high. I remember the scary feeling when starting a resin infusion when I think back, when I was building two carbon fibre hydrofoils for a 28' catamran an several kilos o...

Thank you for all the replies. I did degrease, sand and degrease the aluminium just before layup. I have not chemically treated it. I will see how long the bond lasts, otherwise I will the try to acid etch next time. I think the even bigger problem was, that that the aluminium is no bent during pres...

I've finished a pair of GS skis and took them for a test ride yesterday. They are 180 cm long with widths of 98-70-116, R=19m Ash core, maple sidewalls, aluminium tail spacers, 750 g/m^2 triax glass and a smoked oak topsheet with laser cut ash inlays and an epoxy topcoat. https://abload.de/img/20170...

Thank you guys! The skis have a length of 170 cm and widths of 118-86-110. Not a real powder width but they float pretty well though and I do not like to skin on much wider skis. I am working on a full powder ski with a length of 180 cm and widths of 154-125-147 with the same balsa construction meth...

Perennial Skis
After reading and building for the fourth season I finally made to post some pictures on this great forum. From the second season I was quite happy with the results and today I still ski almost all of the skis below today. All are built with wooden sidewalls and with either ash or smoked oak veneer ...

Thank you for the infos. Good point to use infusion to have less resin in the flax ;) Just to get it right: You make the laminate above the core (including topsheet?) in a separate step, then glue this piece on the the core, that is already assembled with the base. Do you do the infusion on a flat s...
