Re: Round Top skis 19/20

I am going very simple for this controller. I am planning on using two extension cords to power each blanket. I spec’d the blankets to run on 15 amps so I can plug them into the wall sockets. This is in contrast to the controller for my brewing set up which has a 30amp power cord and then complicate...

Re: Round Top skis 19/20

Between glue ups for a shelving project I finally got to the control box. I cut all of the holes for the PIDs, heat sinks and power switches. I just need to cut the holes for the temperature sensors and wire it up. https://photos.app.goo.gl/9Mrm22dz3W8h2Nb56

Re: Round Top skis 19/20

I'll be interested to see how you heat the bottom from the interior of your vacuum! Nice lookin setup you've got going on! Funny you should ask, this is something that has caused me some sleepless early mornings. I have two heat blankets (top and bottom) but how do i wire the bottom one and maintai...

Re: Round Top skis 19/20

Well, it has been a while since I last posted. Summer has been busy with rediscovering mountain biking after 20 years and insulating my garage/workshop. I have finished a bunch of furniture projects and am now ready to start up ski building again. I have ordered enough material from Sandwich Tech to...

Re: heating a vacuum press

Hi Maufils, I actually got my entropy from a place in the states and had it delivered to a parcel pick up company in Vermont. Unfortunately with the border closed this no longer works. The shop in the states is called Jamestown Distributors. Not sure if they ship to Canada but they are really easy t...

Re: Silicone sheets in north america

I just wanted to update this post on what i went with. I contacted the people at SSCrubber and they were very helpful and answered quickly. I ended up getting their item ARP-T-50-062-36 which is a 50 durometer sheet .062" thick and 36" wide. A length of 3 yards cost me 98$ and 35$ shipping...

Re: Round Top skis 19/20

So it has been a while since i have made much progress but this weekend the temps were warm enough for me to spend some quality time in the unheated shop. Over the past month i have cut out the tip and tail parts to create the molds. I then got a used router table and figured out how to attach my ol...

Re: Looking for information on Hokkaido

WOW! that is a lot of great information. I loved the video at the end and i did spot your tele turns, always love seeing other pin-heads in the wild, we have to stick together! We had thought about staying at the Hakuginso ryokan but thought that buying our own food might be a little too much. Of co...

Re: Round Top skis 19/20

So, the skiing has been excellent and ski building has taken a break. It is going to pick up again soon as the SSR's, PIDs and thermocouple wire has arrived from Auber. Once i am back from my AIARE 1 course i will start the build for the two control boxes and then start testing out the heat blankets...

Re: Looking for information on Hokkaido

I have found this great site hokkaidowilds.org that has a lot of great information on ski touring and places to go. I am looking for some insider knowledge on where we must ski and maybe what we should avoid or be aware of.

Looking for information on Hokkaido

Hi All, a couple of friends and I are in the early stages of planning a 2 week self guided trip to Hokkaido for 2021. It will all be backcountry days and our plan (for the moment) is to base our selves out of a town/village that is centrally located to several backcountry areas for a week and then m...

Re: Round Top skis 19/20

OAC: steel frame is the goal, for a first try wood was easier since i already have a pretty well stocked woodworking shop and this is only table mark one. The white top is masonite and which is coated MDF and should deal with the heat with no problems...i hope. My plan is to press at 65c so not an o...

Re: Round Top skis 19/20

Interesting. I guess there is a solution to almost every problem out there. Now, i have to do some research and figure out which connector is the one i need. Although the list on the Pave Technology site seems pretty comprehensive there is almost too much choice. Now i just have to figure out how to...

Re: Round Top skis 19/20

slow progress on the table. It is now as flat as i can get it (on both sides...important!) so i have moved onto the frame to hold the silicone sheet and the templates for the mould. I have also got two designs done for a spring/resort ski and a fatter powder ski. Ben has been kind enough to offer to...

Re: Round Top skis 19/20

It is proving hard to get my MDF table flat, so i have some aluminium angle struts that are dead flat which should hold the MDF flat and support the top at the same time. Too bad it is started snowing and the backcountry is starting to open up (this is a good thing) but it is making work on the pres...
