Pretty well fitting is not enough ;) Use a dot of glue every 4th teeth or so. If both sides of the base have same structure, just flip it. The old superglue will get off when you grind the base. Just sand it down before you glue on the edges again so that you have no high spots during pressing. Or ...

Your bending skills are up to shit haha, no offense ;) and it will get better with time. A super accurate bend is critical to getting a super tight fit, its all practice. Also keep your superglue usage down to a small dot every 50-100mm, using too much.is asking for delamination. I'm never talking ...

I then shaped the edges and superglued them onto my base. First the rough shape using the press tool, then the fine tuning with the plyers. http://abload.de/img/024skis-145419o8sc2.jpg I was pretty happy with my work. So I then stuck the edges on. http://abload.de/img/025skis-1643032qsb5.jpg About a...

I had a few hours yesterday to work on this project before friends arrived. In the evening we did the layup for a longboard rather than snowboard ;-) First off, I used the best side of my template to make a new template which is symetrical. In future I think I will take the wood and data to a CNC co...

I would say contact the manufacturer and ask what they recommend for varnish. I haven't got any experience with skis, but on longboards I varnish with a 2 component car clear gloss. I use a HVLP spray pistol to a pply it. Normally 2 coats is enough with a light sanding in between. I intend to try th...

Look forward to seeing the result.
I have the same inserts. there dont appear to be any available here in Europe with the magnetic top. Also they are very expensive. I pay €0.79 per insert... so it becomes one of the more expensive parts of the board if you put in 24 inserts.

Been busy again tonight. I made a ghetto tip bender. Used the router to cut some 1/4 circles on scrap wood, then I welded together a handle and mounted my rolling pins. Seems to work. I can still fine tune it a bit. http://abload.de/img/018skis-214525dcs3t.jpg http://abload.de/img/019skis-002713o1sk...

I am not happy with the template I made. Firstly I printed the template using 12 x A4 sheets and gluing them to the mdf. then carefully cutting out with the jig saw, and smoothing with the belt sander. To check things, I printed a second template on 12 sheets & taped them together.. the result w...

I am so looking forward to my first pressing. If everything goes well it could happen this weekend, though still lots to do. I need to build a tip bender which is 40cm wide, as I need it to bend my aluminium plate mould. Bought 2 rolling pins for €5.00 at the 1 Euro store last night. Also started be...

Aaaaaahhhh. That is so you can put it through a base grinder with an autofeed. Gotcha!

Thanks for the tips guys. As I was intending to cut my bast tonight, I see I should wait a day or so with the base unrolled so it can flatten out,

Progress is going on.. but slowly. I am doing a snowboard first, as a little less work and maybe easier than skis. Tonight my aluminium sheets arrived that I will use for the profile mould. I need to find a way to bend them how I want. I also cut out the template for cutting the base material and co...
