And now for something completely different…… Not sure how well this technique would work with plastic sidewalls, but because I “inlay epoxy sidewalls into the core by routering channels into the core blank (leaving a thin bottom to the channels which I plane off after the epoxy hardens), I...

I make a lot of boards with magnatraction, never made skis though. But anyway, as far as boards go that is way too big a reverse sidecut. Most boards are now going for milder magnatraction, apart from some lib tech boards (lib tech actually made some skis with their magnatraction, i don't think they...

Yeah pressed laminations have a higher volume of VOCs still trapped within the resin after curing than a ventilated cure. As far as I knew the chemists building the stuff have thought about it already and I've never been overly concerned with it, it works I'm happy. Epoxy resin does have a very low ...

Some cool ideas coming out simply by someone wanting to try somethung different, that's cool. I would email the info desk at Henkel, they have always really gone out of their way when i have had a question for them. They might have a VOC free option. I have always thought that VOC free epoxy had a s...

Ummm, yeah bro. I think you are over thinking it all. Just try to picture it in your head. I've spent 20 years running big cnc milling centres and even with all the new cadcam programs around I've found the guys i have taught who can picture it in their head properly go on to be good cnc tradesman. ...

Thanks for the info. I have been planning to make a set of foldable approach skis that aren't heavy and unreliable like mtn approach. I have some carbon ready to go but now i might add a bit of light glass between the core and carbon.
Cheers bro.

I strongly disagree with that and I know of a few cases where this lead to problems. You generally try to have a smooth transition in stiffness in order to avoid shear stress on the interface. So always core to biax to UD. If you want to have the UD against the core I would recommend putting a very...

On most cnc software you can select your machining plane with code like g17, g18, g19. You can then cutter size compensation the tool on the z axis so your profile is still correct. Or you can even get lazy and not even learn to write code and just about any cam software will do it all for you :D A ...

Those logs look nice and clean, very few knots or voids. Grain looks so even i reckon you could get away with not vertical laminating some of them. Thats a really good score. I've always wanted to start from raw logs. Nice one. That control looks pretty fancy, A heap of nice work dude, but then the ...

Had a few PU sidewall stuff ups. Trying to get fancy with multiple colours swirled together but hadn't stirred each colour hard enough. One had voids right in the middle so i didnt find it till too late, the other 2 i routerd out and re-used. Both builds had problem after problem to the point I woul...

I still think printed veneer is so simple i am surprised you aren't trying it. I bought my printer used for $50. It can do anything. Including the lettering you speak of. http://i1362.photobucket.com/albums/r686/gavwa08/built%20boards/11009516_909518272416345_268100648_o_zps2fid8uwr.jpg [/img]

I like that die cutter idea, pretty cool. But if it is just for veneers have you tried simply printing straight to the veneer. I've found it works perfectly and have never had any ink run, even in fine detailed images. Or if you want to keep making stencils then sort out a drag knife. Actually, if y...
