Something to think about with the sander. I have done this on several pairs and it works great. After you get the sidewalls sanded at 90* up to the edges, Tip the table and continue sanding. You can get nice results and do not need to router the sidewalls. Just keep an eye on it so you don't take it...

Reduce the width of the cat track in the contour areas. Same height, just narrower to allow for the bend to be accomplished. If this does not make sense, let me know and I'll get a pic to you.

Nice write-up! Q#1: If the same glass was used in both skis, wouldn't the thickness of the core material determine the stiffness of the skis? IE spacing between the composite layers? I ask because reading around people talk about what wood to use and it seems the consensus is it is all personal pref...

If I follow you correctly, I have done both. One with the standard sidecut of the ski and add rocker tip and tail. One with the sidecut reversing at the point of rocker in the tip and tail. Just a guess on this but it seems that with the reverse sidecut ski at rocker the skis seem to smeer (?) more ...

Doug,
You are correct! With a little thought you can do all kinds of things, not just soften up your ride but even do minor tweaks to specific areas. Hope to hear from others who have tried to target specific areas of their skis and boards.

Okay, So I got to head out today. Went to the resort with my son. The skis worked great. Softened up just right. Nice edge hold and great control. But with these snow conditions it is kinda hard to go wrong! Skied until 12:30 and had lunch with some friends. We decided to do a quick hike for the aft...

Went to the shop to take the skis out of the press this morning. Here are the skis fresh from the press. http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u242/rockaukum/IMG_0411_zps823d1e26.jpg There is some epoxy on the base but most of what you see is the spray adhesive used to locate the base on the cassette. ...

Skis are finished. Will post update and pics later.
Lets just say I paid more than Knight and less than $1000. Complete and in great working order. I did have to build a converter but that was not too bad.

Face Lift!

So I was kinda bored yesterday and while in the shop I was staring at the used ski lot. Staring back at me was a pair of skis that had several days on them. The construction was good however the skis were kinda stiff for my liking (skiing is supposed to be fun). So I decided to dismantle them and sa...

Front matt, back gloss? top is gloss, back (or bonding surface) abraded. I used to use acetone and quit all together and now just wipe with a clean damp cloth or do nothing at all. So far so good.

Now that you mention it, I would think yes. How about this... When I do my layup, (core up) I wet the core with resin then lay out the glass then wet it out. Next I lay out the topsheet (cotton) and put another coat of resin on it, pressing layer ect... So if I use a dye in the resin on the bottom =...
