Can you tell where the bubbles are in the layup? (between glass and core, core and topsheet, etc.) If you're using a wood core the bubbles could be coming from air expanding within the core when you heat it. If you think this might be the case, try heating the core to a bit above the temp you'll pre...

Was it a brushed or polished finish on the stainless?

Thanks fellas, You're both right about the sidewalls. They are a seperate piece of wood in order to not have exposed endgrain and also to give a little more strength to the edge. I used screws instead of grip-tape because it's what I had on hand. My plan for building this jig was different and far m...

Finished up a little more on the core this week. Epoxied the sidewalls on. http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i99/neclassic/snowboard/snowboard009.jpg I'm using cherry, primarily so I don't have to worry about bonding issues on my first board. The core with side walls. http://i70.photobucket.com/albu...

krp8128, Would you please elaborate on the problem you had with the edge groove in the core? How did you size it and what size were the flanges? What exactly were the "undesirable spots" in the base? Glad to hear you think it's skiable regardless of the issues you had. I like the ridges; i...

Thanks for the replies everyone. :D Got a little more done this week. Cut mdf for the camber mold, thickness profile jig, and templates. Used the saw at work. http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i99/neclassic/snowboard/8-16-07018.jpg The finished template. I spray adhesived a paper template to mdf, th...

My co-worker owns a large format printer for his side job.

He'd be happy to print full sized templates from .dxf or .pdf files for $5 a shot to cover paper, ink, and a little beer money plus shipping.

G-man. You're not suggesting that a 500lb band saw with wheels wide enough to take a proper re-saw blade isn't "monstorous big" are you? I've got motorcycles that weigh less than that! :D :D I'd love to see a photo of how you have it set up. Do you use a typical fence or a vertical bar for...

Are you going to swallowtail it, like the old sims burners? Nope. Nice book matched core! Thanks! :D Damn, where did all the wood go? Seriously. I am surprised that you could only get one core blank from that many boards (1"x4"s??). 3 1/2" wide, so the same width as a 1x4. I got 3 co...

Table saw. I squared up three edges of the glued up block on the jointer, raised the blade on the saw to near max, and made two passes (flipping the piece between passes) for each 1/2" slice. This method chews up quite a bit of wood due to the saw kerf and slight misalignment of the blade betwe...

All Mountain Snowboard for Hard Boots

...or at least that's the plan. Made up the core blank today... Started with pine, bass, and ash for the insert stringers. http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i99/neclassic/snowboard/8-16-07006.jpg Checking to make sure the core will be wide enough with the inserts centered in the ash. http://i70.phot...

- if you use sidewalls, then you obviously have to apply the contour first, glue the sidewalls and then profile the core (otherwise sidewalls won't glue on 2mm thick core for example) - I wouldn't use a jigsaw to apply the contour around the pin and tails if they are just 2mm...i'd be to afraid to ...

Re: women's specific ski design

at what point in the process does a ski become women's specific? I think it's when they put the pink top sheet on. ;) :D Can't speak for skis, but when I sold snowboards, the women specific models mostly had a softer flex and and a different marketing angle on the graphics. When you're talking abou...
