Fernie free ski feb21/09

Chelsea and I spent the afternoon watching the fernie free ski competition. The final today was held on "richards run" a permanently closed area below polar peak. There was definitely some spectacular skiing. I shot some video, [here] is a some highlights. There are 3 in the file. Sorry fo...

Yellow VDS is natural its all i could find last time i needed it. But puckboard is hdpe plastic used as boards at hockey rinks. It's solid white plastic, I use it on top of my vacuum mold to smooth out the transition between camber and tip/tail section. really awesome stuff, tough as nails, I'm still...

I've been using masking tape(good quality blue or green) on my base before layup, it peels of relatively easily and a lot less epoxy to grind off. My local ski tech doesn't like the epoxy going through the coolant pump when base grinding. Even if i don't get complete coverage of my base it still jus...

congats on the first pair!!

I would mount up the railflex bindings to find the proper mount point. Then once you've figured it out mount up the fritschis.
That way you only end up with a couple sets of holes drilled in your skis. ;)

almost everydayfatties

I've been out about 14 days on the everydayfatties now. they are great for everything except ice!! Due to the lack of snow here this year we have lots of (uncharacteristic) ICE Carving on the groomers they work great but when it gets really hard they tend to skip (chatter?) when hard on edge. Pretty...

Building skis in my basement, my first major tool purchase was a half decent dust collector. I bought the best one I could afford at the time. (1 hp w/2 micron bag) While it works OK, I'm now looking at ways to get rid of the filter bag in favor of a decent pleated filter. I wish I had bought a 2hp ...

Nice one :D I've had dozens of legitimate offers on my everydayfatties. But so far I'm not too sure how they are going to stand up to the abuse. I put demo bindings on them and have been lending them to everyone I can. 5 people besides me have skied on them, all with big grins and positive feedback....

On big powder days I wear my beacon at the hill.
You just never know...

On more than one occasion I've come close to burying myself in my own sluff.
Gotta watch out for that 8)
Besides they can't ski cut the whole hill. Where would the fun be in that?

Ben; snow here is getting better by the day, but we are still around 50% of our average for this time of year. That said we did get about 30cm of super low density fluff yesterday. should be fun this morning :D Once the holidays are over the crowds should thin out and snow might get to stick in the ...

Well, after 4 days of skiing (and 3 base repairs due to thin snowpack this year) on the everydayfatties, I took the bindings off. While they seemed great in the soft stuff, I couldn't generate enough pressure in the tips to carve a turn. Found myself in the backseat sliding the tails around to turn....

I knew I'd seen this topic before, http://www.skibuilders.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=307&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0 My thinking is flex is relative to stiffness but pop is a reactive force. I have two skis that are the same flex(beam), similar camber, but one feels more bouncy. Whe...

Now that's a good scrape!!! 8)

I saw lots of core shots today while spending time at the local shop.
opening day with 15cm's fresh and nothing underneath.
But nothing like that.
Hope you can repair it.
