Forget everything I said. Hahahaha.
I need to pay more attention bro. Yep vacuum is a little different from pressure.
Keen to see the results. Clever thinking too, it might degas really well while curing plus being heaps safer.

I really hope you are wrapping some serious harnesses around that thing bro. That does not look like any pressure vessel I have ever built. They look like garden gate hinges. Have you calculated the load on those hinges and panels? Lets say that thing is 1.8 meters long and 400mm wide, that is a sur...

Oh and i grind the sidewall with two angles. The first angle is the normal angle then i add a nice sized 45 degree all around. The flatter angle around the top seems to protect the edge of the veneer a lot more. The topcoat on that latest board is a polyurethane clear coat. I've used epoxy and polyu...

Yeah veneer durability isn't as good as the plastic type topsheets. I have found a couple of ways to improve it a bit. I mix up about 50 grams of resin and then thin it right down with about 10% ( so 5 grams) of acetone and then brush it into the veneer. Work it in so it soaks right through it. Can ...

After trim of flashing and a few coats of gloss. It still needs a cut and buff in this photo but I think it is gonna come out pretty nice in the end. The sidewalls are a deep blood red so that should really make the red veneer pop out a heap. https://i.imgur.com/Qf1OHK7.jpg If you hadn't already not...

I've also got a matching pair of boards I have had here slowly progressing for ages. I have really dragged my feet on these. They are a proper freeride type board and a swallowtail with matching base and topsheet designs. They are for a family member who has his own drag racing team. Nothing too ful...

Yeah Falls thats the old fashioned way of doing it mate. Its similar to my set up, but i dont have to take a sled with me everywhere i go, i already have a snowboard that works perfect as a sled. I dont really like the pole connections when using snowshoes as you feel the sled pull and jolt with eac...

Thanks for the feedback Dave. You are one of very few people i know who even got around to trying approach skis. The points you raise are definitely things that have slowed down the build a lot, do i just build snow skate type skis for aussie conditions or something that can handle powder. I dont us...

I've been really keen to make a pair of foldable approach skis for quite a while now. The MTN Approach stuff always looked a bit weak around the hinges and backwards folding so the hinges took all the weight. Turns out I was right, they have a bad rep for falling apart. It's unfortunate because I li...

How much ya offering? :D :D :D Seriously though, all the people on here building decent skis and boards have invested hundreds of hours and heaps of cash into working out their own designs and processes. You're not going to get anybody volunteering all that knowledge so your mates can build their bu...

Get out and ride a full carbon ski or snowboard. Totally different ride than the same with glass. It would be fun to ride a full carbon powder board, but i doubt i would prefer it over a glass board. Super light isn't always better too. Overly light boards don't handle chopped up snow as well as boa...

The board ground up pretty nice and i only gave the edge a 1 degree base bevel, considering the extra base angle it seemed a fair idea. It all worked really well. It is a full swallowtail powder board but with a long shallow camber. It was a real smooth ride in every type of snow. I even received a ...
