That just looks like a roughing end mill? Is that what you meant to post? That won't really do much for profiling? I use a 1.5" straight flute router bit too, seems fine. yup thats what i meant to post. they profiled out cut the shape of the core with this. I'll see if I can dig up the video a...

I only do a 3/4 wrap and have had very good results and no failures. I haven't seen anyone use metal as the base, I would think this would add a lot of weight in the tip and tail and increase your swing weight. epoxy: It really depends on what is in the "sandwich". FB weight, CF weight, ho...

I was looking around to see what the "Big Boys" use to profile their skis with. check out the one that J skis uses. this thing is beastly: http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c26/Skimann20/Ski%20Building/0a02858d-0167-414c-acb8-2ca4b27dd47d_zpse5fa4474.png I currently use 1.5" with good...

hey Vin, for sure not rabbet depth... MM has beat that one in my head enough ;-) Mold is tight, I cut it on the CNC and there is no variability. I see it in both skis equally so it has to be something they are experiencing during the press. I normally press at 55psi. I may step it up to 60 to see if...

One observation is that my bases for the most part are very f...

Here... I'm feeling generous. Don't ask why I'm not flaming you and just say thanks. http://bit.ly/1Ge0Z7j sam I'm a big fan of "images" first. I think the first three lines of images has every edge bender ever made. (except the cnc edge bender, because that thing is just bad ass and you ...

Carbon Fiber Tow vs Uni-Directional

Hello all, I wanted to start a discussion on tow vs unidirectional carbon fiber. After looking over a lot of build pages it looks like most people use 12K some up to 24K tow; with a variance of 2-7 strands. i've used 4-9oz unidirectional carbon and have mapped out their stiffness characteristics alo...

Veneer definitely adds stiffness. Reliable intel from a buddy in the big time snowboard biz says they decrease core thickness by .2-.4 mm to compensate. I love the black limba, beautiful stuff. Vin: I'll put that little piece of info into my "build bible". I can totally believe it! wood f...

Wood Veneer is: Black Limba usually used to make guitars but looks just as sexy on skis, if not better.

As always, thanks for the useful info. Here a few photos for your viewing pleasure. I had the logo screen printed onto the ski. Try walking into a place that only screen prints t-shirts and explain to them what you want to do to a pair of skis... they were open to the idea but hammered me on the cos...

It goes on light. Dries VERY fast (you can sand it in 30 minutes and apply another coat). And you can polish it to a great shine.
How long did you wait until you polished? With normal poly its a about a week. says that it's "hard" in 50-60 minutes.

thanks MM, I like the way you think. that's usually the type of analogies i use. I was just wondering if the "20cm" would make that much of a difference. My thought is it would but just by how much. Vin: I was almost thinking about making the core at 2.7/11.7/2.7 and seeing how the flex co...

Hey Gang. Still building but nothing really new to post. I'm building a "women" ski now and looking for your thoughts. Here is her dimensions: 166cm 125/82/102 I normally do a 2.7/11.7/2.7 core (flat section under the boots) and I'm thinking about doing the same with this ski. here is my q...

I live in Canada and pay a butt load more than you. 40 bucks sounds cheap as hell. Suck it up man, if your making skis to save money, your in for a world of heartbreak. Seriously! yup. You're barking up the wrong tree if you think this is going to be a cheep hobby. sounds like a great price to me. ...
