Re: Full Cap Issues

Yes. But not to protect the sidewall. Just to not get the topsheet kinked down the real edge where you can trap air and resin when doing vacuum.

Re: Full Cap Issues

Also when you talk about a blank do you mean making the core/sidewall part bigger than the base/edge width so there is room to trim down? Yes, you glue the sidewall to the core and some wood outside to the sidewall. The outside wood just acts as a spacer, so take whatever you have laying around and...

Re: Rubber Toughened Epoxy

You could try to get rubber powder and just mix it with your epoxy. Epoxy for itself is flexible, so with the rubber content you could change it even more + modify the damping. Look for your epoxy datasheet and check the modulus of your product, depends also on the curing process and how high you go...

Re: Full Cap Issues

Yeah its done with a vacuum bagging, I might need to look into how to do sidewalls then. Absolutely no difference! Same process. It helps when you do your blank a little bit wider then just the edge, same width like the raw topsheet. Like this you dont create a kink with your topsheet where resin a...

Re: Full Cap Issues

Hmm, imho cap is much more complicated and more prone to fail then proper sidewalls. The most "difficult" thing with sidewalls is to find a router with tilt base or an angled bit. Where is the difference with needed material? Or are you just using a core without sidewall at all to do your ...

Re: Honeycomb core/Prepreg Film

Full width vds = heavy. So you loose the advantage of honeycomb again. Friends do titanal skis and they told me their skis are heavy because of the vds

Re: Full Cap Issues

I just wonder why anyone likes to do cap top? The caps where invented for cheaper production progress, now some of the big players do advertise the special feature "sidewalls" on their top of the line skis.... Caps are pita to repair and more easily to destroy when hitting a rock...

Vacuum should be strong enough, its 10 Tons of pressure / m2....

Either rabbet as you say or the resin did start to harden too early, then the vacuum cannot squeeze it out enough

Re: New snowboard construction, some help?

You can increase the core thickness or use more heavy fibres to make the core stiffer... And you should take your time and read to all of the posts here. I did just lurk and read trough this forum for about half a year before i started to build my first board, this was a tremendous help. I think alm...
