Have you seen these parts for the Joes CNC? http://www.castcnc.com/ I think you should be able to extend the rack and pinion version to 8'? After checking some reviews I think I am on board with you. I am going to pay the $100 tonight and probably try to build this one as long as I can keep it under...

As far as cnc. Ive been researching them quite extensively over the last 6 months. The Blacktoe kit is $3000 plus you still need to buy electronics. Which in my case I have figured about $800 for (4) steppers, Gecko g540 controller, power supplier ect. Plus maybe another $100 for odds and ends. Tha...

Deflection!
Here are some pictures of my press progress. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4120/4857244683_dca1c135e9_m.jpg not a perfect mold but not bad for my first. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4142/4857865900_aae677328b_m.jpg This seemed to work in stopping a small leak. I added plumbers putty under the gas...

What epoxy are you going to use - I'm guessing you need high temp? Honestly, I havent even started looking into types of epoxy or the process. I have my head burried in designing the press and my new boards. I dont have heat blankets so I assume I will have to use a room temp type of epoxy. I order...

A new press is born
Thanks to all who have posted extremely valuable and detailed info on this forum. I spent many hours studying this website to come up with my press. I acquired the steel from a craigslist ad for 1/2 price. The seller even cut the steel to my specifications. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4122/481031...

Thanks for the input. I do mean stress in the beam. If I could shake off the cob webs from my college engineering classes I could remember the yield strength of steel and deflection calculations. I am 99% sure my design is safe but thought if anyone had a spare second to verify my calcs it would mak...

Press Calculation verification
Hello, I am building my first press and was hoping someone could double check my beam deflection calcs. I came across some 6"x6"x1/4" tube steel. My design calls for 3 of the 6"x6"x 9' long on the top and 3-6"x6"x9' on the bottom. The tube steel beams will be sandw...
