Keep in mind that hardly any ski service will be able to handle 3d bases properly. You definitely will need to search for someone capable handling this, as all machines are made to grind as flat as possible.

Hi,
check this: I use 3 thumbtacks glued to the base to keep the core in position during layup. the core then can't move more than about 0.2mm without getting resistance from the thumbtacks.

Thanks for all the feedback, will go without pre-treating. Another question came up: How much extra resin did you put on the fabric to get a sufficient bond with the balsa? I calculated that a layer of fabric (one below core, one above) will take up 85g of resin. I would add 25g = 110g per layer to ...

Hi, my solution is to only have 2.5-3mm thick sidewalls. This adds little weight but offers nearly all benefits of a sidewall. The only possible issue is that on a hard impact on the edge, there is less sidewall to take that impact. But a hard impact with constant edge deformation always is a bad da...

I'd also be interested what UD you used in +- 17.5°. Surely carbon, but what weight? If you want it damper (though a bit heavier), there is some nice carbon/flax mix UD from bcomp: https://www.bcomp.ch/products/amplitex/.

Glad it worked. Have done it like this on the last 6 pairs of skis, never had an issue and found it always easy to handle.

yes, 300g/m² on top is superior to the 120g/m² on top and bottom. also way easier to work with. The 120g/m² is a PITA to lay up, the thicker one is much better to handle.
