Edge prep 101

Hello everyone Just starting to build again and some of my edges that have been in storage have started to show some signs of corrosion - small light oxidation patches. There is a grey top coat on the edges. Normally I just slap them straight in, not polishing, blasting or anything. So far I haven't...

Hi Motoman this is the peel ply that I use http://www.easycomposites.co.uk/#!/vacuum-equipment-and-supplies/vacuum-bagging-consumables/peel-ply.html I think it is probably industry standard stuff - it leaves a slightly raised texture that can be sanded out before applying any finishing coats. "...

Hello Motoman I use veneer top sheets extensively and have had some good results. I use a vacuum system, not press. During layup I epoxy the veneer on both sides and lay it up normally. I then do one of two things 1. put a layer of silicone peel ply on top and vacuum - this produces a lightly textur...

Also - yes, a symmetrical lay up is best, but I have done asymmetrical also (extra carbon on the top) and have had no issues with camber/rocker loss. I cure at ambient temperatures and use slow resin, When I de-mould I then let things settle for a week before I start finishing the ski. I haven't exp...

hello Motoman That sounds to me as if it would be pretty stiff - that's heavy carbon fibre. I didn't use excel to calculate things but made what I see as my standard core 2-12-2 which is ash, poplar ash stringer, poplar, ash and then played around with fibre weights until I had something I liked and...

hello motoman I use 45/45 biax and then carbon fibre and am pleased with the results. on my 180 skis I use an ash/poplar core 2-12-2. 15.5oz biax fibre glass and then 3.50z uni directional carbon fibre. The skis are stiff enough, light and poppy, but heavy enough no to be too easily deflected. If yo...

Design questions

Hello everyone I currently profile my cores 2-12-2 and then lay up as per my other posts - mixture of biaxial glass and UD CF. This, so far has produced the flex patterns that I like - softer tips into a powerful sweet spot and thence into a slightly stiffer tail. widths vary between 88 -100. So far...

just a quickie

As a rule of thumb do you

a. Align max core thickness and sidecut centre on the BMP

or

b. Align these two on the ball of foot point (in my case 65mm up the ski from the BMP)

There seem to be 2 schools of thought.

Just had an epic trip to Morzine - will post report next week
