Here are two pics of the steel. not all is the right size (I was sloppy while taking it cause I was worried about who saw me doing it). I have one less than I need, so I will go grab that sometime. some are slighty bent in places, but all have a flat side that is usable. I weighed them, and they wei...

they're just about the limit that a single person would be able to carry. I'll get some pics today as I'm doing some measurements and final design creation. The dimensions are 81" long x 6" high x 4"wide and the metal is 1/4" thick.

I got a bunch of i-beams that happened to be 80" long from a junk pile at the D.O.T. Never found anyone to ask about it, so I just took them.

as alwys, thanks a ton for the info. I picked up (hopefully) the final load of i-beams tonight, and will start building the frame this weekend. I can do one of two things. I have enough i-beams to make a 2 8" wide sections of press with the top and bottom having no space between, OR I can have ...

Why is MDF used? what is it about it that makes it the material to use over anything else? I'm guessing it is because it doesn't compress or change under the pressure that a press puts on it, but couldn't you just make it out of some plain wood? Just looking for some info. for when I talk with the c...

Square Steel Tube

Just found this while on e-bay, 2x2x72 in steel tubing for under $20 a piece. Damn good price compared to what I can find elsewhere.

I can get a lot of different thicknesses of HDPE. Would something like .025 be thick enough, or are you talking 1/8-1/4 of an inch?

Adjustable Molds?

How have you guys found to best make the molds adjustable to different sizes without remaking any parts? Is there a way?

Getting much close to having this project getting to construction. The press frame is going to be made this weekend (I hope) and then it's onto the molds.

http://newschoolers.com/PHP/Pictures/Uploaded/1932press_frame_assy.jpg there's the newest one. i-beams are all 4 wide x 6 high x .25 thick steel. the only thing I'm not 100% sure will work is the space between the i-beams and what that may do to the molds. But ya, suggestins to improve it/make sure...

where did you get the steel tubing? because I check home depot and they had none. I know of a couple fence places around here that I could go and ask about buying some if that's the same type though.

Thanks for the input. I'm still looking to find some better materials for the press. Do you reconmend building the molds first? I was just gonna buidl the press frame, then the bottom mold, and just cut the top mold so that it all fits, but if you say build the molds first, I guess that's what I'll ...

Now, the dimensions are the same as the one in the press frame link (I believe little kam's, the all black steel one). Is that for pressing 1 ski at a time, or two?
by that I meant the INSIDE dimensions are the same as the INSIDE dimensions of the other one.

Here's the design I came up with. It uses the same type of steel 2x2 tubing around the edges (if it's not obvious, the black pieces), 4 hard wood 4x4 pieces of wood, with a plywood top. Now, the dimensions are the same as the one in the press frame link (I believe little kam's, the all black steel o...
