I want to make lighter weight skis!

For my first few batches of skis, i used exclusively eastern hardrock maple (laminated to get vertical grain). I was aiming to use the hardest, most dense, more durabel, most binding retentive wood i could get my hands on. I believe that hardrock maple achieves this but i am all ears for debate on t...

Thanks guys, that "Through-wall Coupling" part is the exact part that i did not know existed. or just could not find at any of the local hardware stores....

although i suspect that hardware sales in bellingham would have probably had that part. tacoma hardware stores arent the best

installing fire hose bladder connection to air compressor

i have decided to re-invent my bladder system. I have been using a shredder valve connection to my fire hose. it has worked pretty good, but has been leaking a couple psi per hour lately. i am attempting to directly connect my fire hose to my air compressor like i have seen in the photos around the ...

Advice on used basegrinder?

I am looking for some advice. I found a basegrinder model Fontaine 1404 for sale. It sounds like Fontaine was a supplier for winterstieger. What kind of things should I look for when buying a base grinder? Without much knowledge of these types of sanders, I would probably fire it up and check for al...

Thanks sammer for pointing out that the vacuum I was looking at also works as an air compressor and that is where the 60 PSI was coming from. I thought they were just lying.

I haven't posted much on here, but I get the feeling that this isnt the first time the twizzstyle exploded on the forum

Vacuum reaching more than Atmospheric pressure?

My understanding is that vacuum bagging can only reach up to atmospheric pressure which is around 14 PSI. I currently press skis with the classic steel frame and fire hose at around 35 PSI (i get scared to go any higher) BUT I have an opportunity to buy a pretty heavy duty industrial vacuum at a che...

The combos of them would look really sweet all intertwined. Did you have it all cnc cut? Put together with some sort of backing? I have stacked veneers on top of each other alot. you will get bubbles where the drop-offs are. I then sand those down so there aren't any bubbles and the transition is s...

i finish the ski with another coat of epoxy

I do not use the skibuilder's plastic top sheet. i either use a wood veneer or fabric for graphics. I have used polyurethan before, and i have also left the ski raw as it comes out of the press. the polyuretahn doesnt seem to give a very protective coat to the wood. my common tactic is sand the tops...

the worst part about not having your own base-grinder

THE ABSOLUTE WORST PART about not having my own base-grinder is when I drop off my skis off to get a base-grind and some dumb-ass wanna-be ski-tech tries to tune up your skis and does a fcking horrible job. I dropped off a pair of skis at the stertavants in tacoma. (yes i know they are the 1 %, but ...
