I need a few gallons as well :D

West Systems epoxy has been successfully in the past. Here's the website: http://www.westsystem.com/

I would try to find a 3M epoxy with comparable properties.

It's cool to see some Utahns here. I grew up in Tremonton, UT way up north and first started skiing at Beaver. I'm living in SoCal right now but plan on heading up to Brighton and Alta this winter so maybe we can all get together.

As for my stats. I'm 5'7" and about 135 lbs.

if you're in SoCal then you can try Ganahls. That's where I get my wood. Where do you ski?

My molds are pretty much the same as those described on the site. But to fit your press you should make them a lot shorter. Make your molds first and do a practice layup (with the ski materials and bladder) in your press. Then if it doesn't fit go ahead and make your press taller.

Re: mmm

I am pretty nervous about the safety limits on these presses and the potential for serious injury if something goes wrong is pretty considerable. I'll certainly put my design up for critque before I blow myself up! These ski presses can be very dangerous if not built and operated with caution so I ...

Zachjowi, I think those are the bad rossi bindings. The only rossi/look bindings I would ride are the ones with the wierd heel pieces like ones BigG posted. Stick with the S912's.

Inserts vary. I bought my inserts from CAMAX and you can specify any insert from them. Typically you tell them the thread size, height, and quantity. You can get their contact here: http://skibuilders.com/other/camax.shtm. For mounting tele bindings (G3 and O2) I use either a M5 (metric system) or 1...

they won't work for your alpine bindings. i would have your shop mount your bindings for you if you're not familiar with doing them yourself.

i've heard good things about the s912 TI, but I think those rossi bindings aren't too great. my first pair of skis came with some rossi FDX bindings and they were horrible.

Greg and G-man definitely hit it on the spot with their responses. Don't be fooled by the "homemade" quality of skibuilding. If you're willing to put in the extra time and effort I have no doubt that you can make very high quality skis that will last quite a while. You'll be surprised as t...

hey G-man, I've never even thought of the difficulties with the plastic warping because my press isn't heated. But good point! I asked my local plastics supplier a while back about releasing agents. Pretty funny but according to him most mold makers use PAM (the cooking spray) as a releasing agent. ...

I like to use adhesive to protect my bases and topsheets from epoxy and I haven't had any problems so far. For my last few pairs of skis I used a cheap roll of laminating adhesive (the kind of stuff you laminate papers with) that I bought for $5 at Wal-Mart. It comes in foot wide rolls so it'll cove...
