Some strips of metal in the tip section will also help lessen this without adding much weight.

Volkls are a great example of how a metal topsheet can dampen a ski.

I figured it would work well. Sidewalls got glued on last night so the rabiting will come next.

I'm using a wood cat track and it has worked well with both skis and a snowboard. We are also using 0.030" aluminum for the top and bottom of the cassette to help distribute the load even further.

To rabbit before or after core profiling

So on my first set of skis I rabbited the edges after core profiling. This worked well everywhere except at the tip and tail where the material was 2-2.5mm thick. Has anyone ever tried rabbiting prior to profiling the core? It seems like it would work but I'm worried about inducing more chatter when...

The accelerator shouldn't have an effect on the epoxy cure chemistry. The great thing with accelerator is you can apply it to the surface and let it dry. When you apply the cyano later it kicks off really quick.

I used this on my last set of skis and it seemed to work really well.

I use strong double sided carpet tape for my planer set-up. Its strong enough to not get any chattering at the tips/tails but you can pry it off with a scraper blade afterwards. Its pretty cheap as well

Question about handpainted graphics

Was thinking of doing some screen or hand printed graphics on my first set of skis. What ink have you used and how did you prep the graphics layer once the image is dry?

So what is the best method for shaping the sidewalls with a planer? I've heard people using wood on the outside of the sidewal material to help stabilize, but not sure what kind of luck they had.

So, how to profile sidewall and cores?

It seems like the digging I've done shows that hte planner will cause the sidewalls to delam or at the very least get pretty chewed up. Why not shape the wood core and profile just the wood with a planner. Then use the core as a template and trace the profile onto the sidewall material. Cut out the ...

Solidwork simulation premium has a composite module where you can apply the fiber direction in multiple layers. I believe you have to calculate the composite modulus for the X and Y directions and make that a custom material.

Totaly agree with time being worth the money at this point in my life. A group of us are making a press to do both boards and 2 skis at a time. I'll have to see if they are up for dropping the cash right away.

About the heater, thwy don't have any wattage information. The PID would have to have a pretty quick on/...
