How much $$ are you spending per board or pair of skis?
So I was talking to a fellow builder a few weeks back and our conversation turned to how much each pair of finished skis are costing him. I'm curious if any of you keep track of this. I'm sure it varies quite a bit since some of you outsource dye-sub top sheets, have your cores CNC'd in bulk, or use...

Re: That what does not kill us makes us stronger
Someone needs to write a ski specific FEA product! I wonder if this could be done in SolidWorks Simulation. I've never looked at doing composites. I would imagine it would have trouble with any sort of adhesive, or matrix type material. I'm thinking the layers would likely have to be replaced with ...

Re: Good post
With all due respect, your opposition to vacuum is unfounded. Almost all wind blades are made by vacuum infusion. Sammer does use a vacuum to make his skis if I remember right from reading his journal. I think what he is saying is that he trying the method you are suggesting and he ended up with dr...

This thread has inspired me. And I believe I may have to attempt it. It's funny how when I started researching things a year and a half ago I thought I'd go super cheap. Fabric press with no heat. I've had so much fun figuring out ways to build crap in my garage that I'm actually putting a lot more ...

I hope you can get into this soon. I was following your progress pretty closely around the beginning of last year. I was hoping to have something to show for all my work by last summer. Didn't happen. House disasters and new baby happened. I've been fitting it in here and there though. I'll eventual...

I feel your pain. I've been thinking about how I'd do this as well. Especially since I don't have a bandsaw. What I was thinking (with some help from people here) is that I would cut the stack just under halfway through with my tablesaw, then flip it over and do it again. That way you are left with ...

It sounds like you'll be fine with a few coats of PU from what I've read on here. I gave my old splitboard a facelift a few years ago using Spar Urethane over my paint job and parts of it chipped off after just a few tours. Its really not looking very good. Do your fabric topsheets hold up pretty go...

Are you going to carry a pair of skiis or board on your back? If you are, I think it's not a great way to go. The beauty of skinning up with what you ride down is the weight isn't on your back. It's on the snow. I also think the climbers you want to make won't float in powder so well. Then you have...
