Let me guess: You lift the new inner ski a bit when entering a new turn - e.g. when starting a left turn you lift the left ski just a bit :)

And they perform! Made the Level 3 skiing instructor race in time on these skis yesterday. 3 times before I always failed on bought race skis (ok, this year I trained, but they really ride superior to my Völkl race skis).

I did this to get a whiter color below the topsheet. That won't be neccessary in the future as I either pait the back of the topsheet white or switch to wood veneer tops - really like those.

2/3rd of the core are poplar, 1/3rd ash. Lets see how it keeps up. The torsional stiffness of the 300g/m² carbon triax is definitely enough, other skis I built have a bit too much imo (built with 450g/m² triax or 300g/m² biax), The flax really dampens, didn't believe it but these skis definitely ...

Thin? u mean not so much fibres?
The skis are pretty stiff, the wood core is 2.5 - 14 - 2.5

Daha Daha Daha ;) Tested them today, they really ski great! definitely the best ski I built and also one of the best skis I skied in general - haven't skied many allrounders before. Lets say the best allrounder I skied :) Ok, so the skis are great but won't last forever. So my summer project will be...

I am pretty sure the alignment itself can't be the reason, used this method: http://www.skibuilders.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=5218 And I think vacuum can pull sideways: the peel ply is very static, and I just laid it down over both skis. If the vacuum foil gets sucked down it might cause the peel p...

Hi satch, my plan for future builds is: Take the normal 10mm thick sidewall material, cut it in half with the bandsaw. That way I will have sidewall material a bit thicker than 4mm. I think Akiwi might be right that the shift in the middle section can be created by the vacuum pulling towards the mid...

Hi Akiwi,

hopefully soon! I am in Garmisch from 16th - 19th on skiing instructor exams. If you happen to be on the mountain give me a call. Will ride these skis, its my skiing instructors model - a ski for everything.

I used thumb tacks to position the core again, no dimples at all.

To be honest, I have no idea what wood it is :) A friend of mine used to build skis as well when we started 4 years ago but he soon stopped. Now I use the leftovers, e.g. this veneer.

The finish is a normal PU finish, normally used or boats.

GS Race Ski

Lets see if it performs as it should! 185cm long, 20,5m radius, full camber, hollow tip, 1500g per ski, 70mm underfoot. 450g/m² carbon triax + 120g/m² flax uni to dampen. lets hope it damps as well as everyone says. Self-routed ski ends made from ABS. http://www.spame.de/skibau/rennski02.jpg http:...

Hi, some photos always help :) The finished ski: on one the protection film is already removed, colors are nice and bright. On the other one you can see the topsheet shift in the middle... looks a bit strange. http://www.spame.de/skibau/matterhorn09.JPG Here you can see how thin the rest of the side...

Hi satch, no problem, I will answer gladly (lets be honest, if you post something in the journal section and no one is interested - that sucks!) I skipped the semi-cap design for one simple reason (and I will soon know if the cap really is the reason for it): When getting colder the cap skis start t...

Happened to two of my buddies that they mixed hardener GL2 with hardener L instead of resin L, which sucks about equally :) Ouch! Could happen here too, have these 2 hardeners here as well. Though I replace L with GL1. @satch: I think of how the "perfect" ski would be built like in my opi...
