Oak ?

Hello everyone, long time no see... I wanted to know if anyone has ever tried to put some oak strips in its woodcore ? I made some skis with a core made of strips of pine and ash. But now that I do not have access to woodworking machinery anymore, I am planning on buying the strips from a DIY shop.....

Hi JParker,

did you try them uphill ?
Why did youy decided to put edges in the middles of the board ?
It's not mandatory to climp as the external edge is sufficient, so what does it bring ?

I tried to make a powder ski (181 cm long and 135-95-125), pretty stiff (I am a bit heavy) but I also wanted a rockered tip. I used ash and pine and the core was 2 - 12 - 2 thick. I think 2mm is the maximum I'll used. Tip and tail are very stiff and I'm very happy with this skis, but in deep snow I ...

hi !

I'am actually on a "split board" project with a friend and we were wondering if we could build a bord with edges in the middle !
You made it, and very nicely !
I hope you'll let us know how it behaves, uphill and downhill !

Hi Ben, if you want to have a look at the skis, check out this link : http://skibuilders.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=1250&start=15 As you said and as we are pressing with a pneumatic press, we prefered to fil in the holes with foam and actually it looks perfectly flat. Of course you may want to m...

Here's the third pair, including basalt fibers and carbon. In these skis, a hole was made in the wood copre to fill in with foam. Design is closed from Trab skis in order to make it easier (and lighter !) to use skins. One ski is 1,4 kilos (without bindings). The aim for future porogress is to analy...

hi, well there's not much left to say  :D - I would also recommend wooden sidewalls. I've tried both methods (abs sidewalls and wood), and abs gives you a lot more pain to do ! I just treat the wood in the end with a product that fill in the pore (holes ?) of the wood. - Concerning graphics, th...

Hi plywood and thanks for the answer. I'm pretty happy with the torsion of my skis because I did just like you (I remembered that picture when I decided to order som carbon strings ;) ). We just wondered if we could get the same result in a cheaper way by routing the core, and thus also gain some we...

Machining core for improving torsion

Hi everyone, we're a group of skibuilders and I am responsible of core making. 1 - Our cores seem pretty good, but still, we have some issues with torsion (bit too soft) and secondly we try everything to gain weight... 2 - if you look at most of skis in shops, they have different shape aiming at mak...

hei, thx for the comments. We used acrylic paint, and actually, the water contained in the paint make the fiber of the wood goinga little bit out of the core. I mean it makes it more rough and improves bonding. So it's only good :) However you then have to use FB and no carbon ar anything else that ...

Hello every-one, this is a new pair, from this last week-end. It's particular because the woodcore has been painted, and texte was ink printed on silk paper. Very nice :D On tip and tails, we have put aluminium reinforcements and in order to make them bond (even if they have been sand blasted), we c...

very nice indeed ! I like the results of basalt...how does it ride though ? did you test the skis ? Have you been protecting your sidewalls ? What do you think of using a liquid that fill holes ("bouche-pore" in french, can't find the word) and then treat ithem with epoxy ? Are you gonna b...
