He's essentially wondering how the length/thickness changes w/ change in radius.

Profiling a plate of UHMWPE, cut into strips, then applied to a shaped core. I think the difference would be minimal. You could even leave it a mil thicker and take it off in a sanding pass if there is an issue.

FS: Binding Jigs (Marker & Salomon)

I wanted to give you guys a shot at these first. I have a 2007 Marker Wide Jig w/ clamps opening to 117mm - looks like it can do the following binding series: Comp M Jester Blizzard TPB Specifically states Speed Point, IBC, IBX, and RTL bindings are not supported. The Salomon Jig is also the wide ve...

That's interesting... just a blend, no fiber/orientation?

Yes.
Ultra high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE or sometimes shortened to UHMW), also known as high-modulus polyethylene (HMPE) or high-performance polyethylene (HPPE), is a subset of the thermoplastic polyethylene.

Adding to that, I'm sure the final product will be MUCH heavier as it will absorb much more resin vs. fiberglass. Quick comparison: From Matweb, generic E-Glass - Ultimate Tensile: 3448 MPa, E: 72 GPa From http://www.springerlink.com/content/m6w0kuqj6pq66842/fulltext.pdf?page=1 - Sun Hemp - Ultimate...

I just skimmed through the articles, but it looks like they aren't using PP fibers exclusively?

I'd like to also see some SEM images of the fibers in a matrix.

Most the prepreg I've seen cures around 300F. I've seen lower temp curing prepreg, but the cycle times are much longer.

Precured I could see being used though.

Could it possibly be the viscosity of the resin? Are you using a heated press?

Right, I'm not sure the presses used in industry can cure prepreg.

I'm glad you guys brought this up here. I didn't feel it would be appropriate to discuss on TGR - How has sidewall bonding been with the extra VDS? I'm assuming you made quite a few protos with different configurations? How was bonding with just one strip along the base? For some reason I can't wrap...

I don't think an autoclave is necessary - they can be processed w/ a compression molder.

haha... nice find. Looks like I've got a solid 4 years to get the process down. This doesn't surprise me too much - I believe K2 is trying to incorporate some of these processes into their nordic skis, they gave a presentation to the seattle SAMPE chapter recently about their desire to take the &quo...
