Thanks for your coments. I also saw the new Blizzard Spur at Ispo last week, which is what made me start thinking about it. http://www.ispo.com/awards/ispo-award/winners/2017/ski/id_79698546/blizzard-spur-is-gold-winner-of-the-ispo-award-2017.html I think I will possibly try it with my next skis. wi...

Ski design discussion

I wanted to start a discussion on ski design, where people could perhaps discuss a few ideas, and maybe encourage out of the box thinking and help push the boundries of ski building. I had a couple of topics that I think are interesting and would be interested in what other people think. 1. Asymetri...

The other advantage of the thumbtack, is that it has a large surface to stick to the base. the dowel method only has a small surface area to glue, and also I found that the superglue would wick up the dowel sticking it to the core.. which made it very difficult to get out of the core without breakin...

I love it.. That would have solved the problem of core movement on my last skis!! On the skis that broke I used an 8mm dowel, and the 8mm hole weakened the core and that is where it broke.. this would solve that problem.. Also it is a pain getting the fibres around the dowel sometimes.. Thanks a ton...

Haha, I can imagine that panic. I had the top come off my bottle of super glue last year, spilling it all over my hand. I tried to ignore it, until I realized that all my fingers got stuck together. Had to one handed Google "removing superglue". The answer is Acetone or warm water. I tried...

Hi, they still look nice! Did you use the dovel method to keep the core in place? No, and that was my downfall. :( I decided to try without, as that was where the last pair broke. I realize now that I could have easily aligned my cores using blocks glued to my press as these skis have sidewalls in ...

That is correct. In that case I just clamped the aluminium sheet in the middle to the table. I just measured the ski. I held it down and measured 1.5 cm at the back and just under 2 at the front. so it didn't loose much.. Also by holding down it is pushing up against gravity. The epoxy I use recomme...

Realy realy nice!
I guess the resin was a little thicker, or started to harden sooner and therefore not squeezing out as much. You could try warming the epoxy a little to make it a bit thinner. OTOH if it was hardening too soon, then warming might make it worse.

Or you do what I do, and use a sheet of 3mm Aluminium 40cm wide and long enough for your skis. Bend the sheet for the tip and tail, but leave the rest flat. Do your layup on it and slip the whole thing into a sealed plastic bag. Apply vacuum. Now using strips of wood and clamps you can create rocker...
