Richie - this is what I think I know based on what I have read in the past Ballsrcews - the main practical issue is whipping, The main technical issues relate to those outlined in the decisions made when designing the Z-axis: http://www.cncroutersource.com/leadscrew.html . Resonance, with the additi...

Thanks Twizz, I had understood I'd be restricted to approx 42-45Vdc to leave a safety margin for back EMF and when running 4.2amp motors the idle current function feature would drop out, meaning the motors would get hot when at stand still. I was intending to over spec the motors and push the electr...

I'll e-mail you a link to a forum - they will help you with anything you are unsure about. You might pick up a few bruises, but they will push you forward. They will be very interested in your closed loop system, you will be showed with praise for that decision )

Have you bought them?

Thanks Twizz/Richie. GeckoDrive 540 is a great product and a really great site for background reading. Unfortunately, I will be running four motors, so I've had to scrub them from my list. They have a great reputation, clearly well deserved. SS - E, has a great reputation too. I've read a few commen...

Option 1. Make a press (vacuum doesn't count btw )))) and press away! No-one is required to do this, and I'll admit, for those who just enjoy keeping it simple - carry on, why spoil the fun. Option 2. Make a press and test its performance using a blank. What should the blank look like? - Full length...

4 out of 9 can be done. Not sure what you have in mind if you want to confirm whether the pressure in consistently applied - the main functional purpose of the press.

The wetting out looks great. I'm not sure whether you need to be too concerned about the uniformity of the resin prior to pressing. If you are, then it simply a matter of squeezing the top of the cup to make a spout and doing a couple of runs up and down the fabric. More broadly, (hijacking the thre...

I'm at that stage where I need to think seriously about Motion Control Cards. Does anyone have a view? Good/bad experiences? I done the usual reading around - this was quite useful: http://www.automation.com/pmd/MotionControlCardsforMachineDesign.pdf Depending of costs, I would tend towards Ethernet.

A bit of cherry picking it terms of applicability, but interesting: http://books.google.co.uk/books?id=6jQpjv8sgj0C&pg=PA3&dq=wood+epoxy+mechanical+adhesion&hl=en&sa=X&ei=-WZQUb3HHYmuPO3QgYAK&ved=0CEMQ6AEwAg#v=onepage&q=wood%20epoxy%20mechanical%20adhesion&f=false and...

I've not explained what I meant very well. Bamboo - high strength, low weight. It's has good mechanical properties. I've not used it, but I'm sure Falls can speak to its pro's and con's. Bonding bamboo is like bonding plastic - you are just bringing two pieces of plastic together and the epoxy requi...

Run a test on a scrap piece of veneer. See how long it takes at ambient temperature before the resin will tack like tape and is practically dry to the touch. I suspect you can work 24 hours ahead of schedule with the core and veneer - something like that, if the parts have been left to cure at room ...

Infusion resins are expecting circa 15 psi. It maybe what they recommended, but the hardener supplied makes this an infusion resin. So pressure is major factor to manage. The viscosity of the mixed resin does make a high fabric to resin ratio more achievable, and at a lower tooling cost - if that's ...

You've solved most of this yourself from what I have read, but I hope this helps. The resin you are using is medium viscosity. My resin needs to be at 40oC before it would be at the same viscosity of your resin at 25oC. I can't find the hardener 3663, but I have a good sense from what I have read an...

M, It helps to distinguish between wood core and bamboo cores. Wood cores absorb an amount of resin, bamboo won't. FG and Carbon have slightly different resin requirements, but it's not worth worrying about. Neither fabrics absorb the resin. A fabric will wet out more efficiently by raising the temp...

What epoxy is that?

Can you detail your layup in more detail. Is the CF tape or fabric?
